Using Reiki For Wild Animals

Sometimes people are surprised to learn that Reiki energy can be as effective for wild animals as it is for our companion animals. They have an incredible ability to sense the energy. I am continually amazed at animals’ abilities to enter into healing relationships with humans, given how often they are mistreated and abused.

If you are attuned to Reiki, you may find that you have many opportunities to offer the energy to wild animals that may cross your path. Once that starts to happen you may find that you run across more and more situations where you can help in this way. One reason for that is the animals will begin to sense the healing energy that you are offering and will be drawn to it. As you open your mind to the possibilities of using Reiki with wild animals, they in turn will sense your willingness to enter into a new level of interaction with them.

Offering Reiki to wild animals isn’t really very different from offering it to our pets. I always start by asking permission and by letting the animal know that they can take as much or as little of the energy as they want. When they understand that they are in control of the treatment they are much more likely to settle down and relax. If it’s the first time the animal has had an experience with Reiki, it may not accept a lot of energy. But as they become accustomed to it, the animal will very often stay for longer and longer treatments. Sometimes they’ll even seek out healing on their own.

One way that Reiki for wild animals is different is that they very seldom will accept a hands-on treatment. Since Reiki is as effective at a distance as it is hands-on, that’s not a problem at all. In fact, I have very often sat inside my house and offered Reiki to squirrels, rabbits, deer and even wild turkeys. The energy flowed very strongly and they stayed and enjoyed the treatments for 15 – 20 minutes just relaxing and soaking up the energy. When a squirrel or chipmunk will stay still for 10 minutes that’s a pretty clear indication that they’re enjoying the treatment!

One of my favorite things to do during nice weather is to simply go outside and sit quietly, offering Reiki to the living things around me. I set the intention that the Reiki will go where it’s needed and that anything in need of healing will receive it. The Reiki always flows very strongly when I do this, so I know that it’s being received. If you try this you might find several animals that come nearby and stay within your “healing circle,” just taking in the energy from a distance. If you make a habit of being in the same place at the same time of day you may even begin to recognize individuals that come on a regular basis for their “session“ offering the gift of their presence and acceptance.

I also often take the opportunity to send Reiki to wild animals simply to help them survive the many challenges they face every day, especially in their interactions with humans. Since Reiki heals on emotional as well as physical levels it can help any wild animals that have suffered the loss of offspring or a mate, or that are in captivity and suffering the loss of their freedom. Since I am empathic I very often sense an animal’s pain, fear, or confusion but I don’t always know exactly where it’s coming from. In those situations I always send Reiki out to any animal that may be in fear or pain. As long as the Reiki flows I know that it’s going where it’s needed.

Even insects can feel and benefit from Reiki. When I sit outside in the summertime I am very often the landing spot for several dragonflies that will stay for 10 minutes or more simply absorbing the energy. Bees and butterflies also seem to be able to sense the energy very strongly and will land on me en masse when I’m sending it.

I once visited a butterfly museum with my family. It was a beautiful greenhouse full of all sorts of colorful butterflies fluttering around us along with the tropical flowers that were their food. There were benches placed throughout the building and I sat down on one and began quietly sending Reiki out. Soon there were beautiful butterflies all over me! It was an amazing experience.

Reiki can even be sent to a specific situation involving wild animals. For instance, you may be having a problem with a mouse in your house, or a gopher or raccoon that’s damaging your property. You can send Reiki to the animal and ask that it leave your house and find another home, or explain that your property is being damaged by their actions and that you’d like them to stop digging on your lawn. Very often that’s all that needs to be done to solve the problem. If the animals can sense your respect they are usually happy to oblige.

Reiki has the wonderful ability to open us up to possibilities that we may never have imagined.  Our wild animal companions have much to teach us if we allow ourselves to be open to their lessons.
