Renowned for his glam-rock aesthetics, enigmatic presence and charming character, Stanley Duke returns to the scene, crash landing from a psychedelic rock ’n’ roll voyage of space-jazz and fuzz frenzy.
Over the past year, Duke has been quietly tinkering away in isolation, creating a collection of 5 testaments to the pandemic’s effect on creativity. Each track was initially influenced by a psychic reading relevant to fatefully selected Tarot Cards, which have further unfolded into a journey through the thoughts and feelings of Duke’s life in lockdown.
‘Isolation Tarot’ is a mesmerizing concoction of sounds and lyrics that inexplicably manage to be simultaneously tangible and alien. From the feverishly fun groove of ‘The Hanged Man’ and the squelching goth-funk bass of ‘Temperance,’ to the vicious fuzz guitar of ‘King of Pentacles’ and the tranquil, dreamlike verses of ‘The Lovers,’ ‘Isolation Tarot’ finally lands at the clumsy-camp pomp of ‘Death.’ Duke fills this 23-minute opera with juxtapositions of joyous celebration and romantic despair.
About the new release, Duke adds:
“This year has been emotional on so many levels. Not one of us has ever seen normality crumble and melt in such a way before, and I felt I had an opportunity to document my personal experience as best I could. I’ve learned a lot about myself, and every high and low can be heard on this EP.”
The Isolation Tarot EP will be available on all streaming platforms on May 5th 2021.
