Is Evolving In Consciousness Keeping You From Being Conscious?
Have you spent large amounts of time trying to learn and gather information and grow your consciousness, only to find yourself not making the leaps and bounds you had hoped to? Do you spend so much time studying things that you don’t experience things? Has trying to be open actually closed you down?
These questions bring up the aspect that so many individuals run around trying to evolve their consciousness; but don’t put it into action, or stop long enough to actually be in consciousness. For most, they are so busy seeking that they are not allowing their own awakening to happen. I have seen this in several people that spend hours a day reading information, seeking after answers; but then wonder why they don’t feel like they are very far along, or getting anywhere in their processes.
Somewhere, there is a balance to be found when evolving in consciousness. I love this quote by Richard Harvey that really brings it into perspective:
“If we are serious about spirituality, we must become open, available and responsive to the spiritual. You cannot do that if you are contracted within the ego-processes; neither can you do it if you are ‘evolving in consciousness,’ because evolving is just another word for seeking, for journeying, for never arriving. It gives you the ultimate excuse.”
The key in this is that we learn how to balance what the ego is needing with a desire to progress ourselves on a spiritual path. I would say, for most seekers, there is a desire to know the “true self” and the truth in general. This seems to be even more evident in today’s times as people naturally remember more and more of where they have come from; which then leads them to want to connect with the “real divine state.”
Robert Meagher is one person that works with what is known as Sacred Attention Therapy; which comes from the work of Richard Harvey. This work blends the psychological and spiritual growth. This is a process that takes people through self-discovery, authenticity, and consciousness.
I feel that this aspect of “Sacred Attention” is a practice that allows the ‘seeker’ within us to unearth and discover what it seems to be desperately looking for when evolving in consciousness. It then allows us to grow through a process of continual opening. So many times we busy ourselves looking for something in the outer world, but through self-attention, we can bridge the human and soul selves into a beautiful realm of communication and connection, allowing the journey to be fulfilled and to move beyond it with true experiencing of life and awareness.
Do you implement Sacred Attention into your life or are you living in the role of the seeker? Do you live in connection with your soul self or are you sporadically connecting? What is a conscious life for you?
