June is an exciting month in our home! Our daughter graduates from high school with honors and I’ve been planning a fun graduation party. Following that is a much anticipated family vacation before she’s off to college. Do you have a graduate in your home too? It doesn’t matter if it’s kindergarten, elementary, middle, high school or college graduations; they are all exciting milestones! Celebrate and honor all their hard work!
Feng Shui principles can be used to energize all stages of education. When the school year ends, take some time to clean out old outdated clothing, worn school items and donate, recycle or discard items that you don’t need for the next school year. Reusing the same old binders, worn pencils and other supplies energetically keeps our kids feeling stuck and stagnant when it’s time to move on with excitement to a higher grade! Clear all clutter from their bedroom which I know can accumulate with a busy school year. This will leave some open space for the energies of creativity, imagination and fun. Yellow is a good balanced color choice for a student’s bedroom since it’s both calming and energizing. Yellow also provides a feeling of safety and stability for your child or teenager.
The incentive to use Feng Shui principles in a child or teens room is to create a happy, healthy space. They need to balance study time with play time. Place a desk with a globe, owl or other item related to wisdom or hang a map on the front left side wall of the room. This is the Knowledge area. Show your student how proud you are of them by displaying artwork, awards, or good report cards on the middle of the back wall in the Fame area. It will boost their self-confidence too!
Happy Father’s Day!
Now that the kid’s are all settled, what about dear old ‘Dad,’ or ‘Pop’, or ‘Father’? No matter what name you use to address him, celebrate his special day! Father’s Day is June 15 this year. In most families, Dad is considered to be the provider and patriarch. Dads should be honored for all the hard work, love and security they provide to their family. Forget the shirt, tie or tool and give dad a great Feng Shui gift with intention!
- Statues of a horse or dragon will bring strength & courage
- Happy Wealthy Buddha holding gold ingots for abundance
- Money Toad with Chinese coins to increase abundance
- Lucky Bamboo plant for his desk or home office for good luck
- Lucky Jade or Golden Dragon Ship for career success
- Jade Horse or Dragon for business success
- Feng Shui golden Pagoda to create a good business environment
- Leather items such as a wallet with some money or a belt
Happy Summer Solstice!
Summer is coming to the Northern Hemisphere on June 21, 2014 at 6:51 A.M. EDT (NY time)! It’s the longest day of the year and the shortest night of the year. In the Southern Hemisphere it will be winter. In ancient China, the Summer Solstice was observed to honor the Earth, feminine and Yin energy. This complements the Winter Solstice which was celebrated in the heavens with masculine and Yang energy. Many ancient cultures celebrated the Summer Solstice in the U.S. and Europe. In North America, Native Americans held ritual dances to honor the sun. The Earth and Sun are still celebrated in several areas of the world today. In the U.S. it’s the start of the summer season with family activities, swimming, and local festivals with art and music. Feel free to create your own celebration of summer!
June Weddings
June is a popular month for brides. This year my husband and I celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary on June 30! According to Feng Shui principles, the bride should purchase a new gown. Wearing a borrowed or second-hand gown will carry the energy and fortune of the former bride. Forget the ‘something old’ for the gown! But, if it’s a tradition in your family to wear someone else’s gown, hopefully, they have a happy and prosperous marriage! Personally, I would not wear a gown bought in a vintage shop because you don’t know the history of it. In China, the traditional color for the bride’s gown is red, for good luck. Today’s modern Chinese brides wear ivory or gold as white is the traditional color for mourning.
Feminine and masculine energies are brought into balance, harmony and unity by the white bridal gown and the groom’s black tuxedo which represent the principle of Yin/Yang. To create great energy for the bridal party, consider these gown colors:
- dark or light blue for growth
- purple or lavender for longevity and wealth
- dark or light green for longevity, wealth and growth
- yellow for marriage and happiness
- metallic colors for creativity and children
Whether you choose to use Feng Shui recommendations or not, it’s your special and perfect day. Choose what speaks to your heart and soul!
The color scheme of the wedding should reflect the mood and energy of this important day:
- Splashes of red represent love and romance
- Purple and violet accents add a sense of style and class along with loyalty and truth
- Yellow is a very happy, healthy color and it adds brightness to a softly lit venue
- Orange energy is exciting and fun and will keep guests talkative
- Black and white décor will promote harmony, strength and grace.
Let your color scheme be a great foundation to start a new life together!
Fresh cut wedding flowers symbolize ‘Sheng Chi’ (Good luck) in Feng Shui. They bring beauty and grace to your special day:
- Pink peonies for love and romance
- Pink roses for happiness
- Red roses for love
- Calla Lilies for beauty, grace and wisdom
- Red Chrysanthemums for love
- Magnolias for contentment and good fortune
I wish all the engaged couples a beautiful wedding day and a joyful marriage!

Angel of Summer
The Archangel of Summer is Uriel. His name means “The Light of God.” He is a powerful Archangel who brings divine light into your life and is depicted holding fire, a candle or lantern for summer. If you ask him, he can illuminate your mind providing you with a ‘bright idea’ and great insight. He also helps with communication, intellectual understanding, writing and speaking. He helps students focus to better study and take tests. Tell your kids to call on him when they go back to school! Once you ask Archangel Uriel for help, be aware as he works quickly to provide you with whatever you need.
