Therapy Insights Soft music fills the warm, candle-lit room. The aroma of Frankincense adds to the soft, peaceful atmosphere. Surrounding yourself with a golden glow, you breathe in the light, exhaling all dark thoughts as you focus on the words in your head. Starting with a barely audible whisper you begin to chant, “I feel love, I give love, I am love.” The words gently gain momentum creating their own rising sound and rolling rhythm. You are using an affirmation! The use of affirmations as a healing tool derives from several trains of thought. As spiritual beings in human form we exist on three planes, mind, body and spirit. A happening in one area will create repercussions in the other two. A spiritual high provides a physical feeling of bliss. Negative thoughts, such as anger, may manifest physically as an upset stomach. Physical illness and disease will cause a depressed mental state. Thoughts act as drugs on our physical and mental bodies. The way we view our lives, relationships and perceived success determines who we are. Our lives and relationships are governed by who we believe we are. We are capable of expanding or limiting our life experiences by changing the words we say, the thoughts we think, and our intentions from negative to positive. The use of positive affirmations can ease suffering and empower the individual, offering endless possibilities to change and grow. The effects of existing within the mind, body and spirit trinity on the physical body may most certainly be soothed by the use of affirmations. The following affirmations may be used for the following common ailments: Allergies – I am safe and secure with foods and in my surroundings. Arthritis – I’m letting go of all the fear, stress, worry and anxiety I have been holding onto all my life. Back problems – The universe is backing me up in all my decisions and responsibilities. Colds – Nature is cleansing me and I am assisting her in the process. Depression – Happiness moves through me like a river of love. Fatigue – I am alive, alert and refreshed. Headache – I resolve all conflicts easily and effortlessly. Reference: Laura Norman, Thomas Cowan. Views:]]>
