Its spring and I love it! April showers may bring May flowers, but do you know that water can bring you career success? Water is important to life; our life and the life of our planet. Water makes up more than two-thirds of our body weight and without it we would not exist. According to several scientific studies, if we looked at Mother Earth from space we would see that 71% of our planet is covered with water. Water is critical for our personal and planetary survival!
Feng Shui encourages us to live in harmony and balance with nature. Water as a Feng Shui element represents nourishment, abundance and the flow of life. It also relates to communication, inner development, popularity, wisdom, social interaction, and learning. According to Feng Shui principles, if we have an imbalance of water we can feel sluggish, uncommunicative, lonely, isolated, and forgetful. We may exhibit symptoms of fear, stress, worry and insomnia. We may even experience ear, kidney or bladder issues, stiff joints and dull vision. I don’t know about you, but I’ll remember to drink my water!
To encourage healthy Chi energy, water needs to be clear and flowing. Visualize a meandering stream splashing along the rocks or a gorgeous waterfall tumbling down into a body of water, both are active yang energy. Yang energy is moving, warm, lively and positive. Now visualize a small pond or lake which has very yin energy. Yin energy is inactive, calm, reflective, passive, soft and negative. The water has nowhere to flow; and it can become stagnant and negatively affect our Chi. I have a vivid memory of a geese filled pond in a nearby park. Lots of young children were playing by the water’s edge and on the swings. It was a pretty sunny and breezy day so I decided to get some exercise walking around the large pond. That same night I began to cough. This cough later turned into an upper respiratory infection. Now that’s negative Chi! Of course there are clean ponds and it’s good to exercise, so just check the water quality before you walk or jog around a small pond or lake.
Some clear larger ponds or lakes are wonderful places to sit and reflect on the happenings in your life. If you want guidance or to gain a new perspective, still water can be comforting and calming since it’s yin energy. In Feng Shui still ponds and lakes can also represent ‘a depth of knowledge’ and they can also be a great place to meditate. You might not get the guidance you seek with the sound of water crashing over rocks! Feng Shui is all about energy and balance. If you surround yourself with the water energy you need at any given time, it can be very inspiring and uplifting.
From a spiritual perspective, water is related to inspiration, wisdom and divinity. Water can also help us to release what no longer serves our best and highest good. As guided, at the conclusion of life coaching sessions I will use a waterfall visualization to help people wash away any remaining negative emotions or health discomfort they need to release. The action of water flowing over your body is healing and restorative. Of course the angels are standing by to transmute negative feelings into positive ones while enfolding clients in their loving wings.
2012 has brought us into the ‘Shift of Ages.’ This fast-paced energy is a wake-up call to change. Changing your thinking, changing careers because fear and competitiveness are no longer your truth, and changing the way you want and need to live your life. Some people will not be comfortable with change; others will flow with it like a mighty river. Old ways are being assessed and released; people are awakening to the call of spirituality, helping others, stepping bolding in new directions, leaving fear based ideas behind and embracing love in all ways. My advice is to leave the past in the past; it no longer serves you now. Change is good and change is the only constant in the world right now. I give you permission to start your new life journey. Jump out of your comfort zone and into the Shift!
If this has been your feeling lately, know that you are not alone. Many people are feeling the need to change careers and create a new life journey for themselves. This is something they would never have considered before because their job paid the bills. People now want more out of life and they want to enjoy what they do for a living, and that’s a good thing! People are working with the Law of Attraction. They are manifesting what they desire in life which will provide for them and their family and it makes them happy. Feng Shui is all about intention, so set your intention and go for it! An important piece to remember is to remain open to receiving all good things. You can ask the Universe and the angels for what you desire and take necessary action, but you also need to recognize the gifts in your life that are right in front of you. When you are grateful for all the good things life brings you, you will attract more good things. Always keep love and gratitude in your heart!
Spiritually speaking, there are a few Archangels to call upon that will help you attain all the life tools you’ll need for this process.
•Ariel – she can help you manifest your earthly material needs
•Azrael – he can help you release any grief about a change of job
•Chamuel – he can help you find your life purpose and provide guidance about your next step in life
•Gabriel – she helps writers, teachers, speakers and artists build confidence
•Haniel – she helps us release old ways and patterns
•Jeremiel – he helps you conduct a life review and assists you with change
•Michael – he helps us release fear and provides protection in all ways
Let’s manifest! Take a deep breath and release the need to hang on to the job you dislike, the corporate policy you no longer resonate with and the boss who doesn’t compliment or compensate your hard work. So now what do you do? First, get very specific about the job you want. Hold that idea or picture in your mind and even put a depiction of it on a Vision Board. How does the energy of this new job feel to you? How does success feel to you? What does success look like to you? Once you have specific beliefs about this new career, turn on all your senses. See yourself in this new position and going to your new office. What does it look like? What does this new ethical business energy feel like? Consider all the things you’ll do with this higher paycheck. Really get into the energy of the day to day activities. Live it and breathe it all in! Next, I would call upon your Guardian Angels and the Archangels for guidance. Be open to receiving it, acting upon it and being grateful for all that you already have and for all the new opportunities to come. The angels will arrange synchronicities to allow you to meet influential people and they will guide you to places and situations where your new job awaits. They are truly magical! Ask, Believe, Trust and Receive. And so it is!
The people who are struggling against the current and trying to hold on are losing their way. This is when fear and confusion steps in. If you have any feelings of uncertainty, decisions to make or confused thoughts, use Feng Shui! A great remedy for clarity is to place a bowl of clean water next to your bed at night. Set your intention to have your mind as clear as the water. In the morning dump out the water and continue the process until you have attained the clarity you desire.
Now that we’ve discussed manifestation and I’ve introduced you to your angelic teammates, let’s see what else Feng Shui can do for you. It can expand the success of your current career or help you find the job of your dreams! Water is the only element in Feng Shui related to the Career and Life Journey area of the Bagua. Let Feng Shui help you on your life journey to find a new job that fulfills you, makes you happy, and provides a higher salary or a promotion!
Take a look at the front middle section of your home and compare it with the picture of the Bagua energy map. The front middle of your home relates to career and business success. If this is your front door and foyer area, make sure it’s clutter-free and the door opens widely and smoothly. In a previous column we discussed how important it is to keep the front of your home clean and neat with fresh plants and flowers. This encourages the prosperous Chi energy to flow towards your home. The front door is your ‘mouth of Chi’. You want and need all the good luck and fortune that comes in this door because it affects your job success and supports your life journey! If your front door is here, make it work for you! You can paint it black for career enhancement. If you don’t like that color or how it will look with the rest of your home, don’t use it! Feng Shui enhancements are recommended but you are the one living with them, so definitely use what you like. This goes for all remedies. My front door is a beautiful auspicious red color and I love it! Green is also a great color because it represents nature and money. And don’t forget to add a new welcome mat. When making these changes, always remember to set an intention for what you desire in your life!
To enhance your current career, life journey or to attract a new position, you can use the following items. Please don’t use all of them at once! When you make too many Feng Shui changes to one area it can make the energy chaotic! Pick one or two changes and see how they work for you. You can place these items inside your home, with intention, in the Career area. The only exception to this rule is the Bagua mirror. This must always be hung outside of your home, never inside.
•Place a Bagua mirror above your front door for protection and blessings.
•Inside your home run a water fountain with the flow towards the inside of your home. You can even put a business card from the company you one day wish to work under the fountain. If you like, you can use a water feature outside of your home. In either case the water must remain clean at all times.
•Use an aquarium with 8 goldfish and 1 black one to absorb any negativity.
•Hang a painting or picture of a waterfall or flowing water (no still lakes or ponds).
•Use décor items in the colors blue or black or with wavy lines to represent water
•Hang a mirror in the foyer or whatever room is in the Career area but do not let it face the front door. Every mirror hung in your home should allow you to see at least your head and shoulders.
Did you know that all of these Feng Shui enhancements can also be completed in your office or home office? Ideally you would want to sit at a desk in the Command Position. This allows you to face the door to see who enters but do not sit directly in line with the door. I know that sometimes you don’t have much control over a work office or cubicle. If this is your situation, add a few enhancements along with a fresh plant to bring in nature. If your back is to the entrance and you cannot turn your desk around, place a mirror on the desk to reflect whoever is entering. Otherwise each time someone comes in it will surprise you and that’s not conducive to you or your work. It will also stop you from feeling vulnerable, give it a try! If the corner of a file cabinet, wall or other furniture with a sharp edge is facing you, consider placing an ivy plant to flow over the edge to soften it. This is called ‘Sha Chi’ which is a ‘poison arrow’ that can be unintentionally directed towards you by the placement of furniture. Subconsciously this can make you feel unfocused and uneasy. You might even feel that someone is ‘pointing a finger at you’. Your office desk and chair should be large enough for your work, sturdy and comfortable. A small cramped desk (in either location) can make you feel controlled by another and cause you to feel you’ll never advance in your position.
The desk in your home office (or work office) should be large and ideally made of wood (for a good flow of Chi) and oval or rectangle without sharp edges. Although modern glass or metal desks look attractive, they don’t offer a solid foundation or good support for your business. Remember that Feng Shui is also about symbolism. What do you want your office to say about you? Always place the desk in the Command Position. Avoid sitting with your back to windows because it raises the vulnerability issue again. If this cannot be changed then keep the blinds closed. A solid wall behind you is best, (think of a mountain in ancient China) and will provide support. You can even hang a picture or painting of a mountain for extra business support. Of course, all office space should be clean and clutter-free!
Some traditional Career enhancement symbols you can place on your desk are the Phoenix bird, a boat or sailing ship pointed in your direction and an image of what success means to you. A live bamboo plant on the upper left of your desk is good for abundance as well as gold Chinese coins tied with red cord or a Chinese Buddha statue holding a gold ingot. A great way to promote intuition in the work place is to place a round small crystal in the upper right hand side of your desk as you’re seated. This enhances your concentration, intuition and creativity. Please give these Feng Shui remedies a try and let me know if you have any questions. I’d love to hear how they work for you!
