Chiron and Mars in Retrograde in Aries Awakens the Divine Masculine Warrior Self for Deep Internal Healing
Chiron is known as the “Wounded Healer” and quite special in Astrology for being an Asteroid rather than a planet.
In Greek Mythology, Chiron was identified as a Centaur, and he could heal others but he couldn’t heal himself from the same afflictions. He was revered as the wisest, most noble, and genuinely sincere of the Centaurs. Unlike his brethren who lusted for war, Chiron was a wise source of counsel, and offered advice of a different kind that didn’t include violence.
Chiron took on many traits of his adopted father, Apollo, by learning the arts of Medicine, Herbs, Music, Archery, Gymnastics, Hunting and Prophecy. His wisdom set him apart and above others. You could say as a comparative example, he was the Crown Chakra whereas his fellow Centaureans were more like the Root Chakra. He found a way to rise above primal instincts and seek a higher understanding of things.
Retrogrades are all about the process of Review, Reflect, and Reexamine. This is where the importance is put on Shadow Work. And these two celestial bodies are a power pack combo for Aries energy to surface through the deeper recesses of ourselves.
Chiron has been retrograde in Aries since July 11, 2020, and won’t go direct again until December 15th. Mars has been retrograde in its native sign Aries since September 9, 2020, and won’t go direct again until November 13th. So, for the time being, these two events have become a combined force of primal fiery energy.
Mars has often been referred to as the planet of war. Think of it like a charging warrior into battle. Sometimes those battles are warranted, and sometimes they’re not, considering there are other more diplomatic ways to address conflict if possible.
With fiery Aries influence, the Shadow Work that Mars delivers to us right now is all about those internal battles, deep seeded resentments, bitter judgments, and dark bias we have stirring within. It won’t matter how long these energies have been suppressed. It’s time for things to come to the surface so they can be seen in a new light. Like other fire signs, Aries can bring forth incredible opportunities for healthy passion, newness, change, growth, and creativity.
With fiery Aries influence, the Shadow Work that Chiron delivers to us right now is all about maintaining dignity, grace, integrity, and fortitude while we endure some of our biggest battles. This is where we are brought in front of a mirror to see ourselves at a soul level, and decide whether or not we want to reflect the higher good, or succumb to the temptation to seek vengeance and dark justice.
Will we wear the mantle of the Mercenary and Militia Soldier? Or will we wear the mantle of the Wise Sage? Together, these retrogrades will have us facing our deepest beliefs and positions we are most passionate about, in order to challenge us to do better and rise above conflict.
Fire is an elemental raw power that can either illuminate and warm the soul, or it can scorch and burn everything it touches. We can either embrace a disciplined way of dealing with conflict, retreat altogether, or throw off all caution and plunge ahead into battle without consideration of consequences for either side. Will the dark side of passion take control of us? Or will we take control of it?
The Divine Masculine energy will be inviting us to rise above petty arguments, the need to be right, and unbridled rage, to embrace a new way to express ourselves. We can absolutely take an important position without blindly injuring others who get in our way. We can also recognize when we are at a disadvantage, and learn how to compromise.
Discernment is absolutely necessary at this time. Not all battles are worth fighting. Not all actions are justified. And not all war campaigns towards an enemy will provide the outcome we are seeking.
We are in charge of our own actions. And at this time, as we are tested on how we react to our environment and others in our environment, we will come out on the other side learning much more about ourselves than when we went in.
A great warrior knows when to strike and how deep to thrust a sword into the crowd. He waits until he knows for sure that is what he wants and needs to do.
Mars reminds us at this time to wield fire into something constructive. Use it to our advantage to become fueled in our beliefs and attitudes, and also use that fire to illuminate truths which can help guide others. This is where Chiron says, “I understand your pain. I am not your enemy. Let’s learn how to heal together.”
Crimes of passion committed against others do not just occur in the physical domain. They occur in our thoughts and hearts as well. There are healthier attitudes to embrace besides revenge or vengeance.
The Divine Masculine asks us to take up the mantle of self-control, temperance, and wisdom. It’s essential we consider all sides so hasty decisions are not made. Admit mistakes. Admit shortcomings. And then move forward to do better.
The Divine Masculine understands the warrior position is used to protect oneself and others, but is not wise to use in an offensive strategy.
This is a moment in which we can rise to the occasion to embrace our best selves. Review where we’ve made mistakes and decide to act differently next time. The message here is that we cannot go to war with someone unless we give them one.
Contemplate. And do not act unless necessary. And when action is required, let it be through fairness and disciplined strategy.
Chiron invites us to use our pain as medicine to help others heal. This is because pain gives us a perspective that 3rd party observation cannot. I’ve always said that the greatest therapists are those who have overcome what their patients are currently overcoming. A great leader and advisor knows what to say, when to say it, and how to say it because they too have been on the receiving end. They also know when to exercise tough love if the therapy becomes toxic or the patient resists change. Being willing to put in the time and do the work is essential to healing. For true deep healing to come, all parties must be willing to do the work. Sometimes tough love and stern boundaries are necessary to keep progressing.
These two retrogrades in Aries gives us an incredible opportunity to experience the before and after of transmuting pain into growth, and also find that beautiful balance within. It is with that understanding that we are invited to use our power wisely.
