It’s June and there are many happy occasions to celebrate this month! In prior columns I wrote about creating good Feng Shui and abundance in your home for all aspects of your life. Since summer officially begins on June 20, I thought you might like to hear some Feng Shui tips for this time of year. The summer solstice is the longest day of the year and the shortest night of the year. In the Northern Hemisphere, summer solstice begins onJune 20, 2012 at 7:09 P.M. EDT and in the UK, summer solstice begins on June 20, 2012 at 23:09 UTC. This day has a long history of celebration. The Mayans, Aztec, Native Americans and other cultures celebrated the blessings of the warm sun, blossoming of trees, growth of fruit and all good things the summer would bring to them.
The ancient Chinese people celebrated this Yang (active) time of year by wearing red and welcoming the softness of summer. To balance the summer Fire element, they would swim in a cool stream or pond. They also believed that summer is related to the heart chakra and the sound of laughter. So I guess these ancient people were right, as we now say “laughter is good for the heart.”! In China it’s a tradition to eat chilled noodles all day. It’s also the start of the busy farming season. Other countries have their own celebrations too. Why not be creative and design a special celebration for your family?
Father’s Day is June 17, so let’s not forget dear old Dad! In most family’s he’s considered the provider and patriarch. Just as I mentioned last month about Mom, Dad has his very own day in June. If you love your Dad, please don’t buy him a tie! Here are some great Feng Shui gifts for Dad to be given with intention!
- A small statue of a strong animal will give Dad strength & courage
- A happy wealth Buddha for abundance
- Chinese lucky coins for abundance
- Lucky Bamboo plant for his desk or home office
- Lucky Jade Dragon Ship for abundance and career success
- Jade Horse or Dragon for business success
- Bronze Kuan Kung, the Chinese God of Business statue
- Leather items such as a wallet or belt
Whether you call him Father, Dad, Pop, or by another name, he’s a very Yang character in Feng Shui. Yang represents male energy. Think strong; with fast active energy, the sun, summer, fire and heat. This is the white side of the Yin/Yang symbol. The black side is represented by the female passive energy and relates to the moon, water, cold and winter. This is an important concept in Feng Shui and this symbol is often called ‘complementary opposites.’ In life, one cannot exist without the other. That’s why there is a spot of white in the black and a spot of black in the white side. Some describe this symbol as two fish. If your home is too Yin, it might be dark and quiet to the point of being boring! Too much Yin can also negatively affect your health by causing depression, fatigue, feeling lonely and worrying too much.
There must be a good balance to harmonize your life and your home. Both energies are intrinsically needed for life to exist. If there is too much Yang energy in your home, you might have high blood pressure, feel angry and impatient. The men in your life already have Yang energy so an abundance of this just might make dear old Dad a bit grumpy! Taking this to the next level, too much Yang energy in your home can cause accidents and create an overflow of clutter. It can also cause arguments and your home life would be very loud and noisy. Think of it as living with a Mardi Gras festival every day!
Here are some things you can do to regain your balance and peace of mind when your home is too Yang.
Meditate
Add a soothing water fountain
Clear up the clutter
Listen to classical music
Let your creative juices flow
Use your power of intention to create the life you want
Remove plants with spiked leaves
Use soft colors in your décor
Summertime Feng Shui
This is the time of year everyone makes vacation plans. The Travel area of the Bagua also includes Helpful People (think of angels and religious items) and it’s located to the right front side of your home as you look inward from the front door. Got an itch to visit someplace special? Here’s what to do, with intention of course!
- Hang up a picture, postcard, brochure or symbol of the place you want to visit
- If you drive on vacation, play some soothing music to calm tension
- Remove any clutter from this area of your home and also your car
- Hang a small faceted clear quartz crystal from the rearview mirror for protection and call upon Archangel Michael to keep you safe
- If you feel stressed or afraid to fly, rub calming Lavender oil on the soles of your feet to relax
- If you feel sluggish from the heat, metal wind chimes will perk you up
- Keep a summer journal of all the fun things you and your family do. It will get you through the darker days of fall.
- Stay well-hydrated, eat light meals
- Keep a fan circulating the air in your home
- Replace dark, heavy fabrics with light color ones
- Replace your fire pit with a water fountain or healthy green plant and flowers
Spiritual Helpers
The Archangel of Summer is Uriel. His name means “The Light of God.” He is a powerful Archangel who brings divine light into your life and is sometimes depicted holding a candle or lantern. Call upon him when you need a bright idea or insight as he can illuminate the mind. If you’re in a sticky situation and want to find the right words to say, call upon AA Uriel for better communications. He even helps you while taking tests. Tell your kids to call upon him when they take their school finals!
One day I had asked him about a certain aspect of my business. In dream time that night, so much information was “downloaded” to me! I could see worksheets and outlines for classes and an angel book. When you ask him for help, take quick notice of your thoughts and ideas as he works pretty swiftly! If you’re feeling negative or have painful memories, call upon AA Uriel for peace of mind. He assists with writing and effective public speaking. His main color is yellow and one of his gemstones is Amber. You can also place a picture or statue of him or any angel with your intentions in the Helpful People area of your home.
Special Occasion Feng Shui
If you’re a graduate this June, it’s important what color you wear under your gown! If you are entering the arts as a career, you can wear white for creativity. Interested in science or engineering as a career? Wear gold for wisdom. If it’s a business career you’re after, wear black or dark colors. If you’re not yet sure, green for new growth and brown for grounding and a stable future are great colors. Remember to discard the old items from school, keep some memories, remove any clutter and get ready to move forward to an exciting career! A feng shui consultation is an excellent gift for a graduate too. It’s critical to live in a balanced harmonious space while facing all the exciting things life has to offer. I would be thrilled to advise ways to create good Chi energy in a new apartment or new office for the graduate. I offer virtual consultations from anywhere. Blessings for career success to all the graduates!
Will you or someone in your family be a June bride? I was many years ago! It’s such a traditional month to marry. If the bride has any doubt or nervousness, here’s a Feng Shui ritual to ward off bad luck and bring happiness. Have the bride-to-be soak her feet for 20 minutes in a bowl of uncooked rice. The rice is said to absorb any negativity or feelings that go along with ‘cold feet’. Take the rice outside to discard! Feng Shui also recommends that you purchase a new bridal gown. Don’t wear a borrowed or second-hand gown because it contains the emotions and fortunes of the former bride. Remember with your white gown and the groom’s black tux, your Yin/Yang energies will be balanced! Good colors for the bridesmaids to be in balance are dark blue/light blue, purple/lavender, dark green/light green and metallic. The bottom line is that it’s your special day, so wear something that speaks to your soul! Love and blessings for all the newlyweds in this lovely month of June!
