Open the doors and windows of your heart, home and mind. Spring is early this year. We are all artists learning to live creatively! Before you begin arguing with that statement allow me to elaborate please. I know too well that we aren’t each gifted with the talent of a great musician, painter, poet, or actor. Too often what begins as a good idea turns out to be “why did I ever think I could do that?” Environments reflect our state of order and/or disorder constantly. Our planet is a mega environment traveling around the Sun annually. Seasonal changes are predictable and orderly for the earth. Then consider our continent, our country, state, community, home, work site, recreational areas and so forth. Disorder is a stage of creating a greater or less state of organization. The earth is striving to balance and compensate for pollution and resource depletion. Consider the nuclear accidents, polar caps melting, fracking and chemical toxicity all occurring simultaneously causing our planet to struggle constantly. Human beings are part of the process of change, struggle and resolutions. We struggle to improve our personal spaces when our needs and wants change due to a wide variety of stimuli. Temporary and purposeful alterations can be a form of order or disorder. Think about dirty dishes, messy lived in rooms, laundry, etc. We manage those temporary ongoing changes to meet our needs and goals. Not everyone has the same management process, but everyone has a process. I would not rearrange the dentist’s waiting room while visiting for an examination. I’m there for short and infrequent periods of time. I know with certainty that I will rearrange my closet while organizing my wardrobe for the coming season. It takes a creative mind to organize thoughts, feelings and material objects. All of us engage in the process of artfully creating space for what we desire to maintain or attract. We organize according to our current needs, interests, goals and feelings when we have the freedom of our own preferences. The dominant colors in the rooms of your home evolve in methodical patterns that are unique to you. Your personalized living space will be a reflection of your inner state of being. Does it look balanced? What about the placement of the furniture and window treatments? Those who wish to follow the popular designer of the month will attempt to squeeze their lives into the color pallet, style and organization promoted by the latest decorator shows. Eventually they will find ways to tweak the environment to better suit their individuality. Yellow is the brilliant, bright, vivid color that announces the arrival of spring. We see it in snow covered crocuses, daffodils, tulips and Forsythia bushes early on. When I spent winters in Lily Dale, in the snow belt of western New York, my eyes honestly would grow hungry for yellow. Women would sometimes visit my clothing boutique in Fredonia to “get a color fix” in January and February. I know I am not alone in my need for ample environmental colors to feel healthy. Color wheels present choices and patterns of coordination quickly and easily when we are decorating spaces. Another method of rearranging your environment is to consider the dominant colors found in your clothing. Pick your favorite three colors and consider what they are showing you. Do they harmonize or contrast? If they contrast, what color smooths the transition between them? Are the colors you see outdated and in need of replacements? Cool and warm tones are available in all colors. Determine which tone is best for you and be faithful to the choice you select. Are you looking best in silver or gold? Try looking at yourself in a mirror holding each color just under your neck. Does the observing eye go to the object or to your face? The best one for you will always take the observers eye to your face. The best tone for you could change as your face changes with age and or your hair color changes. Check your colors frequently for complimentary looks do change too. The same holds true with garment lines. Are they constructed with vertical lines? Do they help to elongate your body? Being a shorter than average woman who carries extra weight myself, I select best by looking for vertical lines constructed in mono tones. I must avoid or compensate for wide open neck lines because they lessen the vertical effect I look best in. Loving color, energy and textures as most of us do, it is safe to say be courageous, try it and then enjoy the changes you create. Bushels of options are available year round but especially during the early spring. Views:]]>
