Why has this become so popular? It’s simple; Reiki works! You don’t need to ingest any chemicals, be subjected to invasive procedures, get undressed or subscribe to any particular belief system. Most often, even those who are on the fence about this method soon become staunch believers after receiving a treatment. What does Reiki do? Reiki allows the recipient to draw energy from the practitioner who in turn is able to be a conduit for universal energy, which is everywhere and readily available. The body becomes more relaxed as this energy is able to work through, assisting in opening, clearing, and balancing the energy within. Why is opening and balancing energy necessary? The premise of Reiki is that when the seven main energy centers within the body are operating at their optimal level they are able to support all of the glands and organs they are responsible for. Energy is then able to flow freely. These energy centers are known as chakras, which in Sanskrit means “wheel.” Each oscillates at a specific frequency supporting the immune system. Reiki healing suggests that when this process is reduced by any one of the energy centers, or by a combination of them, illness results. It is also believed that if left unattended or poorly attended to, disease occurs. What causes chakras to get clogged? There are many factors that can interrupt the flow of energy, with stress being a major contributor. Other factors include chemicals, and certain foods that we ingest, the environment, being subjected to negative people, and negative thinking. Blockages can be mental, physical, and spiritual. Toxins build up and create the decreased flow of energy. How does Reiki know where to go and which chakras to work on? The universal energy flows through the body. When it reaches an area where energy is “stuck” it gently moves through it. In doing this, energy can help to release built up toxins on all levels. Since this can include suppressed thoughts and memories, this may be an emotional release for some. Does this process hurt? Reiki is very gentle and relaxing and should never be painful. Should a person seek treatment for a chronic condition, they may experience a slight increase in symptoms after the session. This does not last long and the end result is such a relief they usually cannot wait to continue since they usually experience a noted decrease in symptoms. Reiki does not replace medical care, it is offered as a complement to conventional treatments. It is not unusual for individuals to report that less pain medication is required for their symptoms when they do have chronic illnesses. What are some things Reiki can be used for?
