Facets Of A Wild Diamond
Each month we will feature one of our Diamond Psychics and Healers to help you get to know our Diamonds a little better and to show why we call them a Diamond.
This month our Feature Diamond Psychic and Healer is the wonderful Corbie Mitleid. I sat down with her and asked some questions to allow us to learn a bit more about her and her readings.
How long have you been doing readings?
I’ve been reading for almost 40 years – first starting with Tarot, and then branching out into my other skills – past life retrieval, channeling, mediumship, intuitive counseling, spirit guide conferences, hands-on healing — as they appeared, either through my seeking them out or Spirit tapping me on the shoulder and saying “You might want to try this…”
When did you realize you had psychic abilities and what drew you to working specifically with Tarot?
My favorite book as a child was The Witch Family by Eleanor Estes. Instead of thinking either “ooh that’s scary” or “ha ha ha” my thought was “…and your point is?” I knew there was magic in the world, I simply had to go find it. I was drawn to Tarot in 1973 when Live and Let Die came out, with Jane Seymour as Solitaire. Spencer Gifts had the “James Bond 007 Tarot Deck” and I bought it. True story! But we were all hippies then, weren’t we?
For the next 20 years I investigated different ways of teaching, counseling and healing. In 1994, working on some past life investigations proved to be a catalyst for my own abilities. Without formal instruction of any kind, I found myself able to do hands-on healing work, distance energy work over the phone, and act as a liaison between discarnate entities and those of us currently in body. I proved to be a doorway Home for souls caught in the Grey Space—those who have died, but for one reason or another cannot get to the Light on their own, and therefore haunt the living. And I found I had a talent for channeling souls and Higher Selves for those who need to know the “hows and whys” of their life challenges.
What I do now is a combination of those unexpected gifts and the more accessible tools I’ve found useful over the years. I continue to hone my skills; my certifications are testimony to the ongoing work. My goal is to continue living the “examined life,” not only learning more technique, but also going within myself to eradicate fears, bias, judgment, ego—anything that can get in the way of unconditional love and compassion.
Tell us about your Tarot Certification. What was involved in obtaining it?
I was designated a Certified Professional Tarot Reader through the Tarot Certification Board. The Tarot Certification Board of America (www.tarotcertification.org) is a nonprofit organization that sets standards for amateur and professional Tarot readers. Practitioners are certified by standards of knowledge and skill established by the Tarot Certification Board of America and guaranteed by a standardized testing procedure. My three-hour oral exam not only covered the meanings of all the cards (right side up and reversed) but also my skills in developing spreads for particular questions, correctly assisting a client in framing a question to be most useful in their situation, knowing when a reading was NOT appropriate and how to handle the situation, and reviewing my own code of ethics and standards that would most honorably showcase who we are as readers and what we do. By coming to a Certified Professional like me, you are assured of adherence to accepted standards of ethics and excellence, the legitimacy of a certified practitioner, and adherence to the TCB Client Bill of Rights.
You are well known for your skill in past life retrieval. What influenced you to develop this ability?
Spirit knows that each of us has a particular slant in our everyday life, and specific banks of knowledge; It uses what we already have available to hone our abilities. In my case, I have been an avid historian for decades, and am a published author who finds words my most delicious playground. Therefore, when I see past lives, I see them like a movie.
My ability to describe a mode of dress with precision (for instance, knowing that a long skirt with a tight, close hemline is a “hobble skirt” from 1912 rather than just “old fashioned”) or recognize an architectural period by the look (Baroque, Biedermeier, Art Nouveau, Rococo) means that the past lives can truly come alive.
By such inference I also can tie particular historical reasons to the challenges being examined. For instance, if I have a woman who has always chafed against her husband’s dismissal of her thoughts and value, her incarnational appearance in a suffragette situation makes that much more sense.
When a first time client schedules a reading with you what can they expect from their reading?
That truly has a lot to do with why they are coming to see me. Most people come to me for what I call a “general reading.” General readings deal with practical matters (home, family, work, finances, etc.), one’s spiritual road, speaking with loved ones who have passed, or spirit guide conferences. If past lives come through, they are spontaneous, do not get any kind of “background” reading, and are a general sketch rather than a detailed examination. I usually ask for their full name at birth, their current name and their birth date, so that I can also run a numerology “back story” which gives us extra information on what they came in to do this lifetime. Numerology, like astrology, is a very precise science and can reveal a great deal about why we came in to this incarnation and what tools we have at our disposal.
“Soul Plan” readings are much more in depth, and are based on the book series in which I am a featured channel. Many people who have read about my work in Robert Schwartz’s books, YOUR SOUL’S PLAN and YOUR SOUL’S GIFT are so intrigued by the idea of pre-birth planning that they contact me for a “pre-birth reading” for themselves. This type of reading is directed specifically toward your life challenges: the particular issues that you find always stopping you from your highest and best in this lifetime. It differs from a “regular” reading in that it goes very deeply into core issues that have affected you throughout this incarnation, rather than future blueprinting or general “where do I go from here?” inquiries.
All new clients get a copy of my article Psychics 102: How to Prepare for a Great Psychic Experience, so they know how to frame questions and what to expect.
Do you prefer specific questions or do you prefer to let spirit guide you to the messages they need to hear?
This is the most important question you’ve asked, Belle! I often say I am not here to amaze you with my abilities but to be of service. Sure, I could see you moving to Chicago in 2014, but if what is really bugging you is your work environment, tell me! Let’s look at that in depth. How many times have you gone to a psychic, and an hour after the session realized there were a lot of questions you forgot to ask? Saying to us, “just tell me what you see about my future” means that we scan everything ahead. And there’s only so much ground we can cover in a session.
Therefore, as part of your prep-work, you really need to “know what you want to know.” This is not quite like coming in with preconceived notions; instead, it sets up a structure for the session that is most useful to both you and your intuitive. First, understand why you are asking for a session. If it’s confusion about direction, that’s one kind of reading. If it’s how to handle the dynamics of a situation and the people involved, that’s a second. If it’s choosing among several options, that’s a third…and so on. When you pinpoint the underlying “kink in the pipeline,” then we know what to pull out of our Psychic Toolbox for you.
Your next job is to outline and prioritize your questions. If you have a lot of questions about a lot of areas of your life, we might not get to it all in the time allotted. Therefore, decide which subjects are most important.
Finally, specific questions are better than general questions. If there are definite parameters within which we have to work, tell us. The less time backtracking because we’re guessing about the immutable factors, the more information we can pack into our time with you.
Where does the name Corbie come from?
The name Corbie honors ravens, my guides and avatars. Raven is the guardian of “in absentia” healing, a courier on the Spirit Road, and is first cousin to Coyote the Trickster as a major deity for Northwest Native Tribes.
Tell us about your column in Bellesprit.
It’s called “Corbie’s Wayback Machine,” and it’s a great way to introduce people to the idea of past lives. However, since I only have about 500-700 words to focus on each person’s question and answer, there are certain parameters. You can’t just ask, “Who was I?” We have hundreds of lives to look at, but only some of them will be relevant to the Here and Now! So if you want to send in a question, you should focus on a phobia (“why am I afraid of spiders…getting my head wet…eating at a stranger’s house?”), an obsession (“I used to hate hearing German spoken and now I want to learn to speak it myself…I have a compulsion to save Victorian houses…when I see a dead animal by the road I have to stop and bury it.”), a place you’ve never been to that you are drawn to (“Why do I love Switzerland…the Gobi Desert…Route 66?”) or a specific person (“why do I try so hard to please my mother even though she always belittles me…why can’t I forget the guy I had a crush on in third grade…I saw a picture of a girl in a newspaper and it was like I knew her for years.”)
When you send your question, please also send your full name as listed on your birth certificate (example: Mary Jane Watson), your current name (example: Mary Parker), and your birthday (example: April 3, 1975). If you are asking about someone you know, include that information for him or her, too. (This information will be used in my channeling only and will not be published!
How can people contact you for a reading?
The best way to do it is to go to my website,
www.firethroughspirit.com and go to the Products and Services page. Look over my readings and consultations and decide which one is best for you. Then, either write to me at
Corbie@firethroughspirit.com, use the “Contact Corbie” form (it’s the little envelope in the upper right hand corner of each page). You can also call me at 877-321-CORBIE (877-321-2672).
I am often on the road (40 weekends this year, plus travel time on either side) so my appointments “off road” go very fast. You can also always check my calendar listings (again, on the right hand sidebar of my website) to see if I am coming to your town soon!
As you can see, Corbie brings to her readings a wealth of experience and humor within the psychic realm. Corbie states, “Laughter won’t compromise the truth — it just makes it more palatable.” She is well equipped to provide the guidance you need along your life journey which is why we are honored to have her as one of our trusted
Bellesprit Diamomds.
