There seems to be a lot of Hoop-la about Hooping these days. Many people are touting the benefits of hooping: core strength, cardio, even hoop dancing. However, there is much more to hooping than just a smaller waist.
Hooping is the key to bringing divine balance to the mind, body and spirit. I am Heather Plyler, founder and president of my inspired business, Soul Hooping, which is located in central NY. I am a Certified Radiant You Hoop Meditation Instructor as well as a Children’s Hoop Instructor and Transformational Mentor. Soul Hooping inspires transformation in women who are looking for relief from overwhelmed and fatigued bodies, self-doubt, and out of sync emotions.
Soul Hooping is an innovative modality of instructional and interactive classes, intensives, and programs that focus on the whole person (body, mind and spirit) using highly advanced hoops, meditations and affirmations for children and adults.
The key to any successful hooping experience begins with the proper hoop. Take a moment to think about what size hoop you have been using and whether or not the hoop has been successful for you. If you are like most people, the answer is “no.” You’ve most likely walked away frustrated, exhausted and maybe a little sore from trying every possible way to keep that hoop going! The reason is simple. Most hoops on the market are light, thin, small, and made for a child’s body. It’s not you who can’t hoop, it’s the hoop that isn’t working for you! Extra-large hoops are the key to receiving the full holistic benefit. The proper size and weight, along with guided movements, are the tools needed to allow your inner light to shine.
So, how should you hoop? As you first swing your hoop to begin the momentum, it’s important to use the proper technique to keep that hoop rotating. This is known as the “body rocking method.” Think of your feet grounded or rooted into the earth and with relaxed knees, rock off from your feet and through your legs in a whole body motion. Either rock in a side to side stance or a forward backwards stance, like a rocking chair; whichever position feels more comfortable for your body. Circling or tracing the hoop with your hips is not recommended! This will cause the hoop to lose momentum and fall.
This body rocking motion is the key to hooping. It is calming, centering, grounding and meditative. Through waist hooping, your body is receiving sensory bio-feedback, vestibular and proprioceptive, from the hoop sending impulses to your abdominal area. Within minutes of hooping you now drop into your body, called embodiment. This is where the magic happens! You are connecting to your emotions, energies, mind and spirit. The hooping begins to release negative energy such as fatigue, stress, anxiety, illness and more. In the same turn, the hoop now brings in positive energy and begins to heal your body, mind and spirit by centering your energy, healing and strengthening your aura, clearing and centering your chakras. You become more grounded, able to quiet the “monkey mind” and re-energize to bring balance to your whole body.
You may notice that you hoop in one direction. This is called your dominant direction. It is important to spend some time hooping in the opposite direction as well. This will help connect both sides of your mind and body which brings cohesion.
Now that you know a little more about hooping, you’ll probably never think about it the same way. Are you ready to transform?!
