Dear Readers: It’s rare that I use one of my personal dreams for this column; however, the following dream I had is a wonderful example of how dreams can have different meanings to people. Yet, also measure the process of goals during the journey of life.
By Pamela Cummins
Dream
In my dream I was bending backwards in a camel pose while my feet were pointed up and I was easily able to touch my ankles. I lifted back up, put my feet flat, and again went into a bending backwards position. To my astonishment, I touched my ankles!
Filled with excitement I approached a twenty-six year old yoga teacher and blurted out, “I touched my ankle in camel pose.” She shrugged her shoulders in a “so what” manner. My response was, “Yes, but you’re young, I’m fifty-six years old. What an accomplishment!”
Interpretation
Here are several possible interpretations for the camel yoga pose:
- Being or needing to be flexible.
- Seeing things from a different view point.
- Bending over backwards for someone or people.
- Achieving a new position.
- Being in a unique situation.
- Advising that you need more exercise in your life.
- Suggesting to observe things that are behind you or in your past.
Now, here’s where my dream shows how personal experience, emotions, and viewpoints change the meaning of a dream.
- To someone who hates yoga, this would be a nightmare, and most likely it wouldn’t be a worthy accomplishment.
- A yogi who has been practicing yoga for decades might consider this an amateur pose.
- This dream could cause grief to a car accident victim who can no longer practice yoga.
- For a man who was born paralyzed, this dream would feel like a miracle.
- If a person can’t touch their toes when they bend over in a forward fold, then this dream would give him or her hope.
Since it was my dream, allow me to interpret the dream, but first some background information. I’ve been practicing yoga steadily for two and a half years and love it. Today I am more flexible as an adult than ever, plus thrilled to be able to achieve certain poses. Camel pose has been a work in progress, which I hope to touch my ankles while my feet are flat on the ground.
Pamela’s Dream Meaning
This dream shows that I will be able to accomplish goals in my fifty-sixth year, luckily this isn’t too far in this future since I’ll be that age in October of 2018. This gives me hope for some of my goals (besides camel pose) will be achieved. Another meaning is to continue patiently to be tenacious in my striving, plus not to give up as this is a process, hence as shown in the dream with first my feet lifted up, then being flat on the ground.
The twenty-six year old woman has two meanings.
- It is me when I was younger or who feels that it’s either not much of an accomplishment or I shouldn’t brag about this. This viewpoint shows old tape messages to erase.
- This young woman is symbolic for some people’s attitudes towards me when I achieve goals, whether they don’t care or are jealous.
What I really love about this dream is it’s encouraging me to toot my horn no matter other’s reactions. Perhaps upon these goals completion – a unique or new position is on its way?
Yes, this was my dream, although the interpretation is also for you. Please keep striving towards your goal, be patient with going inch by inch to reach your destination. Ignore your inner and outer critics; this is so important. And always toot your horn upon any achievement!
