Pamela Cummins discusses the dream meanings of having sex with your ex.
Dream
I had two dreams of my ex-husband who passed away recently. In both dreams we’re having sex, but I cannot see his face.
Interpretation
If you had mentioned what your emotional state was in the two dreams, I would be able to do a more accurate analysis of your dream meanings. However, I will do seven possible interpretations instead.
- This dream could represent your feeling of being screwed by your ex-husband, even though he is no longer in your life.
- Another meaning is you miss the intimacy you once had, although you feel either uncomfortable or guilty; hence not seeing his face.
- Because of your ex-husband passing, there is a longing for fulfillment the marriage never had.
- These dreams are memories of your former marriage bed.
- You’re mourning his death and releasing your grief.
- Perhaps it was an actual visitation from the beyond?
- Precognitive dream of a future man, who has similar characteristic of your ex-husband.
Either you will receive an instant knowing of the correct meaning for your dream or you may need to ponder upon the meaning. Whatever conclusion you come up with, please be gentle and accepting of yourself.
Dreams about Your Ex and Sex
Since this reader’s question brought up the topic of dream meanings of an ex and sex, let’s delve into this a little further. Here are seven common dreams about an ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend:
- Getting back together.
- Making love.
- Catching them cheating on you.
- Arguing with one another.
- Feeling the distance between each other.
- Having a conversation.
- Reenacting a common issue in the relationship.

Why do we dream about having sex with our ex-lover? These following seven reasons may be why:
- Craving the closeness you two once had.
- Regrets about the relationship.
- Desiring to be a couple again.
- Missing the sex.
- Feeling screwed by your ex.
- Having a post traumatic dream (PTSD) of a past violent sexual encounter.
- Dreaming of an upcoming future bedroom event.
Obviously, dreams about engaging in the sexual act with an ex-partner brings up a wide range of emotions. If you’re with a new partner, guilty feelings or astonishment of even dreaming about your ex are added to the mix of other emotions.
Please note, this dream or dreams are not a form of punishment. Instead, these types of dreams are there for your healing – even if the relationship ended decades ago. As tempting as it is to ignore these dreams, DON”T. Focus on whether you need to: work on unresolved issues, observe if you have the desire to get back together, letting go of the hope to reunite with your ex-lover, or if your current partner is portraying characteristic of your ex. When you discover the reason for the dream, it becomes easier to resolve the issue, and will bring about more freedom in your life.
