White boneless chicken, water, food starch-modified, salt, seasoning (autolyzed yeast extract, salt, wheat starch, natural flavoring (botanical source), safflower oil, dextrose, citric acid, rosemary), sodium phosphates, seasoning (canola oil, mono- and diglycerides, extractives of rosemary). Battered and breaded with: water, enriched flour (bleached wheat flour, niacin, reduced iron, thiamin mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid), yellow corn flour, food starch-modified, salt, leavening (baking soda, sodium acid pyrophosphate, sodium aluminum phosphate, monocalcium phosphate, calcium lactate), spices, wheat starch, whey, corn starch. Prepared in vegetable oil (Canola oil, corn oil, soybean oil, hydrogenated soybean oil with TBHQ and citric acid added to preserve freshness). Dimethylpolysiloxane added as an antifoaming agent.
A few questions come to mind – such as, where does the need arise to add an “anti-foaming agent” to something that is just supposed to be food? What would be foaming, exactly, without the addition of this agent? And TBHQ? Michael Pollan in the Omnivore’s Dilemma alerts us to the fact that this particular additive is “an antioxidant derived from petroleum that is either sprayed directly on the nugget or the inside of the box it comes in to ‘help preserve freshness’… a form of butane (i.e. lighter fluid) the FDA allows processors to use sparingly in our food. Lighter fluid?? REALLY??? Every day, 64 MILLION people eat at McDonald’s. 64 million. Every day. It’s hard to say how many of them order this particular foodstuff, but then, it’s not like the rest of the menu carries the healthy options. There ARE no healthy options on the menu. It’s all processed stuff that tries to pass for food, laden with chemicals that no sane human being would consciously put in their bodies or the bodies of the ones they love if they really knew what they were consuming. And yet, 64 million of us do it, every day. McDonald’s is, for some people, an addiction not unlike cigarettes, heroin, or cocaine. So many efforts over the years have worked with some success to get people to quit smoking. The new campaign includes disturbing photographs on cigarette packs of people who bear the consequences of making that particular choice. The point is, to paraphrase one tobacco executive, “to arouse disgust and revulsion for picking up cigarettes.” I wonder if a similar tactic applied to McDonald’s would bring about the same result. There should be more outrage about how our society has been scammed into believing this is food. Problem is, the Big Food industry has more power and influence than Big Tobacco ever did. It won’t ever happen. You need to know what’s in the things you put in your mouth. Fast food is simply disgusting. It’s 90% fake food, and the few things on the menu that are real food certainly aren’t healthy and have no place in anyone’s healthy eating plan, no matter what some nutritionists have been paid to claim about McDonald’s. Eating fast food simply puts you on the fast track to disease, decay, and death. Real food is perishable. With time, it begins to decay. It’s a natural process, it just happens. Beef will rot, bread will mold. But what about a McDonald’s burger? Keep in mind the thought from Ann Wigmore:“The food you eat can either be the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison.”
