Lavandula angustifolia) one part German Chamomile (Matricaria recutita), and ½ part Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) for a relaxing bath. You’ll only need two ounces total of the herbs. Secure them in the sachet and boil for several minutes in two quarts of fresh water. After they have steeped for about eight minutes, pour the ‘tea’ into your regular bath water. You may include the sachet itself, and use it as you would a washcloth, minus the addition of any soap. Light a white candle and place near the tub where you can enjoy its soft, flickering light. Soak for up to twenty minutes. At first glance, this may seem like a typical Medical/ Master Herbalist’s recipe for relaxation. Lavender, German Chamomile, and Valerian all have medicinal properties that cause the muscles and the mind to relax. Someone who is magickal-minded would notice that the odd number of herbs used is a nod to the lore that the numbers three, seven, or nine help to bring good fortune. The white candle signifies purity and is believed to draw in positive vibrations and blessings. In magick too, the phase of the Moon would be considered, and also the day of the week, in order to create the most enchanting experience possible. You can also mix and match German Chamomile, Comfrey leaf (Symphytum officinale), Lavender, Rose petals, and/or Valerian to create a relaxing bath, and even add up to five drops total of the following Essential Oils for an especially fragrant and medicinal soak: German Chamomile, Clary Sage, or Lavender. An energizing bath may include a combination of no more than two ounces total of any of the following herbs: Calendula (Calendula officinalis), Eucalyptus leaf (Eucalyptus globulis), Rosemary (Rosemarinus officinalis), Sage leaf (Salvia sclaria). Essential oils that can be used in an energizing bath include: Frankincense, Rose Geranium, or Ginger. Be sure to only add up to five drops total, or adverse skin reactions may occur. It is vital to double-check the scientific names of the herb(s) you plan to use. Some herbs have similar names with very different effects. Always research your herbs and learn of any contraindications or side-effects. Be aware that allergic reactions can occur and it’s important to know the signs and symptoms of a reaction. It is wise to only use herbs and essential oils that have been certified organic, and preferably that have been cultivated responsibly to ensure survival of the species. Our world is a wonderland, and we must respect and protect its abundant treasures. Remember that using herbs strictly for magickal purposes will also result in their use as medicine – and vice versa. I wish you happy healing of the mind, body, and spirit! Views:]]>
