Welcome To Family
Here we are. We have learned to let go of the stimulation. We now understand what that stimulation does to us and what to do with it. The next lesson is not so easy. Understanding who you are as a Highly Sensitive Person and what that means for your life in this world might be one of the most difficult truths to accept.
Highly Sensitive simply means your body has more active neuron receptors than most people. Your skin feels more. Your eyes take in more visuals. You hear more, taste more, sense more. Everyone is unique and all of these attributes are as different as what ice cream or music you like. Everyone is different, so your sensitivities are different and on a gradient scale in comparison to the world around you.
(Some people call extreme sensitivities clairs- clairaudient, clairsentient, clairvoyant, etc. It is just being able to hear more, see more or feel more of what already is there!)
Learning who you are, what you are sensitive to and how you relate to the world is Step Two.
If you read and did the suggestion in Article One, you might already be more aware of how your body, mind and soul relate to the world or the stimulation (aggressors) that are around you. On a daily basis one comes in contact with more than a million stimuli that get absorbed into the HSP mind/body/ soul that is you.
Last month’s article was about how to let it all out. This month’s article is about learning what the aggressors or stimuli are in your life and when is it that you have reached your limit? When is it that you have had enough?
Every person is different so knowing what your specific limits are is critical. Most complaints by HSPs is in comparison to the world around them. “Why can’t I be like so and so? Why aren’t I just normal?” Well, you aren’t. We could say there is a special reason you are HSP. You are here for a special purpose. But that is only true if you want it to be true. So today, here, guess what? You aren’t normal. You are on the 20% gradient curve scale that is a part of everything natural that is on this planet. It just is.
You have a choice to complain or to accept. By choosing to accept, you can adjust your life accordingly, take care of yourself and do the things you need to do to be fulfilled and happy. Then perhaps you will even stop asking why and simply enjoy it! Enjoy being you!! So on we go.
Stimulation. Everywhere you go there is tons of it. You can seek it out. You can hide from it. Normal, average life has its own gradient scale of simulation. A neighbor stops by. The car breaks. You have to work, feed and take care of yourself. There is news happening around you and happening around the world that can affect you in some way. Weather happens. Daytime and nighttime happen. There is a lot going on everyday just as it is!
So what we would ask you to do this month is to begin to take a look at where stimulation/aggressors happen in your life. Where do you live? Where do you work? Who do you live and work with? We all need a certain amount of stimulation but to take care of ourselves we must learn to be aware of how much there is in our lives.
For this part, do nothing. Change nothing. Simply observe. What affects you more? Sights? Sounds? Smells? Who affects you more? People? Traffic? Buildings? Weather? Where are there portions of your life where there is tons of stimuli? Where are you bored and begin to look for stimulation?
Our bodies become accustomed to a certain amount of stimulation. We can “get used” to some stuff. But notice the areas where no matter what you do, you have not been able to get used to that kind or amount of stimulation. (Take into account when on overload any stimuli can be too much!)
(This is fantastic to look at with your children too! If you are HSP, guess what? They probably are too!)
Now this next part is tricky and involves homework. Begin to take a look at where the stimulation has had a severe negative affect. Many HSPs deal with depression, anger, extreme sadness or anxiety. What areas of your life are causing you extreme reactions?
And then choose. Choose here, today. Choose to do something different to limit the amount of stimulation from that area. If it is weather, something as big as moving to a different climate is an option. Traffic? Think about working at home if it is an option or a job closer to home. Is it the news or TV bothering you? Turn it off and allow only fifteen minutes a day or some other limitations.
Begin to take responsibility for your own HSP self. To be Highly Sensitive is to be like an egg. An egg is fragile and breakable on the surface. Yet when treated properly not only is an egg a delicious breakfast but it is capable of bringing great life to the world.
You are capable of bringing great life to the world. You are capable of bringing great joy to your life. You are capable. It is all about learning who you are, how to take care of yourself and your needs and letting go of the expectations of the 80% who are not like you! So join the 20% who are HSP! Welcome to the family.
All our love, life and the possibilities in it all!

The WORLD ~ *W.O.R.L.D. = Wide Open Reality aLive with Dimension
The WORLD Collective Consciousness is the combined voices of all the people, creatures, nations, energies, thoughts and possible realities that this wonder of a world has created and will create. We all have a Collective of who we are: mind, body, spirit, subconscious, lives lived, people loved, spirit connections, guides and energies. That is us as individuals. The WORLD Collective Consciousness is us as a whole. They speak with one voice, a sense of humor and a practical way of showing us all the possibilities we have available to us at any moment. They are more than thrilled to now be a part of the conversation in the spiritual community and eventually in the world itself. It is their time to talk and Jeannine Proulx’s honor to write with them. May you enjoy the insights revealed and the stories shared as the WORLD brings to life its secrets.
