This month we are going to explore the fascinating subject of Spirit Portraiture. I will provide some background information related to the art of psychic portraiture and some well known psychic artists. There will also be some exercises to enable you to further develop this skill. Spirit Portraiture
Spirit portraiture is essentially a form of physical mediumship. This is because some overshadowing of the medium takes place in order to connect with the spirit’s energy effectively. You do not have to be a trained artist or be able to draw in order to produce spirit portraits. Spirit portraiture involves connecting to the energy of the spirit and transferring this to paper without thinking about the process. It is concerned with balancing the left and right hemispheres of the brain and gently allowing the portrait to unfold.
Coral Polge was a famous English psychic artist who completed portraits of those in spirit. Coral taught at the College of Psychic Studies in London. When Coral was first told by an uncle in spirit that she would become a psychic artist she was extremely sceptical. However, she went on to become a highly respected medium in this field of spiritual work.
A spirit portrait may be of a deceased loved one or of a spirit guide; sometimes a portrait of a pet that has crossed to the spirit world may also be channelled. A spirit portrait may not take long to channel. Sometimes I have only taken about 10-15 minutes to produce portraits of the spirits I have connected to. If the channel is clear and we are able to relax it allows the energy to flow through faster .
I have produced portraits of two of my own spirit guides. In my first article I mentioned ‘Aha! Moments’ and that I experienced many of these whilst attending a psychic art retreat. One of those moments was when I channelled a spirit portrait of my life guide “Tao Chung.” I was having some problems connecting in order to channel spirit energy when my tutor suggested that I try drawing with my non-dominant hand. I put the pastel colour into that hand and instantly felt a surge of energy, like an electric shock, pulsate down my arm from the shoulder to my hand. I started to draw large strokes all around the paper and this made me laugh. I did not expect to produce anything of significance as I felt awkward drawing with that hand. I also felt a little silly at the thought of what nonsense I might produce! However, I also felt a sense of freedom, without the pressure of expectation to produce a masterpiece of perfect artwork. I was drawn to a range of pastel colours and I kept working until the energy dropped.
Afterwards, I looked at my artwork and as I had expected I could not see a spirit portrait in the mass of colour on the paper in front of me. I explained all of this to my tutor who smiled and told me to turn the paper around to face me. I was somewhat puzzled by this request but dutifully did so. To my amazement there was a wonderful smiling face. I recognised the face in front of me as I had first seen him when I was a teenager. The tutor told me that he was my life guide and had been waiting a long time to connect with me properly. He now assists me with my psychic artwork and also with supporting others to develop their skills in this area. I have also produced a portrait of one of my other guides, Black Hawk. This was produced when I was first starting to develop the art of spirit portraiture and it was the first portrait that I completed.
I have included some exercises for supporting you to develop the skill of spirit portraiture.
You will need: a large sheet of paper or a roll of plain lining wallpaper, some pastels in brown, grey and black.
Exercise 1 – Developing Faces
1. Firstly ground your energy and then open your chakra energy system to the heart level.
2. Divide your sheet of paper into six sections.
3. Make your intent to develop the art of spirit portraiture and pick up a pastel colour.
4. Bring your energy up to the heart chakra and let it flow down your arm.
5. Working quickly, draw in each of the six sections in turn for 20 seconds at a time. Do this for 4-5 rounds.
6. Now step back and look at the work you have produced. Can you make out faces in any of them?
7. Pick the section with the most prominent start of a face and work with this section to develop the link. Work with the spirit energy to gently develop the portrait.
8. Now put down your pastel colour. Relax and ground your energy. Disconnect from the portrait and cleanse your energy field and close down your chakra system.
Exercise 2 – Working with the non-dominant side of your brain
1. For this exercise you will need a large sheet of paper.
2. Complete step one, three and four as in the previous exercise. However, put your chosen pastel colour in to your non-dominant hand and ask to link to a spirit known to you such as a deceased loved one or your spirit guide.
3. Working quickly, channel the energy of the spirit with you on to the paper.
4. Stop and observe your work.
5. This is a great way to get used to quickly channelling energy and letting go of the end result.
6. If you find it difficult to connect with the energy, play some music to assist with accessing the right side of your brain.
7. When you are finished, cleanse your aura, ground your energies and close down your chakra energy system.

Aura-graph Reading for Natalia Kuna
Natalia has a very strong energy to connect with and is already a clear channel for spirit to link with. This is apparent in the aura-graph by the solid white line extending from the top of the page to the bottom through the chakra energy system. Natalia is very well grounded and the roots extending from her feet also signify a strong ancestral link.
The throat chakra is well developed. This is evident by the blue spiral in the throat chakra region and signifies that Natalia communicates extremely well with others. Natalia is a natural empath and this is apparent in her energy field through the colours green and blue. There is a need for a bit more daily shielding of her energy field, as she naturally takes on board others concerns and problems at times. Visualising a white bubble of energy and stepping inside this would assist to maintain a stronger energy field throughout the day. It could be lined with a pink mirror of reflection. This would send any negative energy back to wherever it came, but as positive healing energy.
Blue is also a reference within the aura-graph to her natural healing abilities and her work with Archangel Michael.
Natalia is also working with the ascended masters of the seventh ray. This is by assisting others through compassion and empathy to let go of old belief systems and progress along their chosen spiritual path.
There is a strong link to her guardian angel and she communicates daily with this angelic energy. The pink energy around Natalia’s head is her guardian angel’s energy. The stars on the other side of the head signal a communication with other realms and the wider universe. Channelling writing from the wider sphere of the angelic realm and star beings is an area to be explored more fully in the future.
Working on a heart level is something that Natalia does naturally. She channels angelic energy and works compassionately to heal others on a soul level. There is some evidence of energy disruption relating to a recent emotional upset. This is associated with the heart level and has caused her to revisit some old belief systems/patterns. There is a need for some releasing work to be completed with reference to this. It does feel as if this is on a relationship level and that a lot of healing has already been completed on this level. The angelic realm would like to assure Natalia that there is not much more work to do on this level.
Natalia has been working hard and her inner child energy is feeling a bit restrained. I feel that I want to remind her to relax a bit more and allow herself to have some fun in order to feed her inner child energy. In turn this will lift her natural life force and creative energy and assist her to go with the flow and be open to new opportunities.
The yellow diamond with a red centre which is in the solar plexus area is Natalia’s soul energy. Working with this symbol in meditation will aid her to boost her personal power energy centre. This will assist to manifest her hopes and dreams for the future.
There is a strong link with Archangel Raphael via the bands of green energy extending from the shoulder area. He steps forward into Natalia’s energy field to state that he would like to work with her more fully. I get a sense of a healing project or circle of healers working on a more global scale. He states that this is an exciting time for her and that new opportunities are opening up for her to explore.
Some red energy on the left hand side near the legs represents an old trauma relating to this area. It feels like it was an impact injury of some kind. There is some residue of this accident in the energy field. Clairvoyantly, I see her occasionally losing strength on this side at about the knee level.
There is a lot of animal energy by Natalia’s feet on the right hand side and a strong sense of working with dolphin energy and a connection with the sea. This comes naturally as Natalia has a strong link with a past life in Atlantis. There is a natural ability to work with crystals and the energy of their colours. Purple crystals in particular are beneficial for her to work with, especially fluorite. This is depicted in the aura-graph as waves of light blue with purple crystals floating within it.
