Mandalas And The Blue Moon
This month we are going to revisit the topic of Mandalas that we explored in February’s column. We are going to take a look at some examples of how Mandalas are used around the world and explore ways you can work with them. We will then explore setting some new intentions for the rest of 2012 drawing on the energy of Augusts’ “Blue Moon” and portraying these in a new Mandala. I will also provide some feedback on my personal experiences of the Mandala I created earlier in the year.
A Mandala is considered to be a sacred, symbolic diagram. “Mandala” is Sanskrit for “circle” and Mandalas usually contain lettering or images and are used as meditational tools. Additionally Mandalas can be used to assist with resolving emotional issues and gaining insights into problems. They can be used for relaxation, to aid spiritual and personal development, for healing purposes and as an aid to prayer.
Mandalas have been used by many cultures around the world for centuries. The Native Americans use them in the form of dream catchers and medicine wheels. Tibetan monks create sand art Mandalas which can consist of precious stones and ground marble. Mandalas can also be found in Christian, Hindu, Buddhism and Islamic faiths and in Celtic folklore.
Some of the most stunning examples of Mandalas can be found in nature, such as the way that the petals on a rose or the inner part of a sunflower form a complex spiral.
In February’s column we explored creating a Mandala to set intentions for 2012. I also shared a painting of my own personal Mandala created in January 2012. My Mandala has been on show in my study since January, alongside my vision board, creating some amazing energies. I was drawn to include the word “Expansion” within my Mandala painting for 2012, alongside the affirmation “Angel Energies for Empowering Myself and Others”. It has been manifesting positive change on many levels and expanding my horizons continuously during the past 7 months in some fantastic ways.
Nowadays, we create our own Mandalas for a diverse A “Blue Moon” has a powerful energy all of its own and this energy can be harnessed to aid your creativity, feed your imagination and expand your goals. The following meditation and exercise can be completed to harness the energy of the Blue Moon in order to create a new Mandala. The date of the second full moon is when the energy of the Blue Moon is at its most potent. If the weather permits, completing this exercise outdoors to fully connect with the energy of the full moon is very beneficial. You will need your art materials, a pen and paper nearby and you may wish to light a small white candle and play some soft music.
Meditation to harness the energy of the Blue Moon
• First, ground and centre your energy, take some deep breaths and relax.
• Next, write a list of new goals for yourself. Use your imagination; this is your chance to transform your life.
• Once you have completed your list, put it to one side, sit comfortably and close your eyes.
• Focus your energy on connecting with the full moon as it shines bright in the dark sky above you.
• Imagine a silver beam of light shining down from the moon and feel it fall around you.
• Visualise yourself living the life you wish for, having achieved the goals you have just written.
• Embrace the moment and feel how good it is to be living that life.
• Ask the moon to show you the way to ensure your wishes start to unfold from that day. Ask that it be done for the highest good and in the best way.
• Feel the energy of the moon enter your very being and flow into your future.
• Ask for an affirmation to be given to you that will harness the energy of the Blue Moon and assist you to manifest your dreams.
• When you are ready, open your eyes and bring your awareness back in to the room.
Exercise to create a Blue Moon Mandala
• Take a large piece of paper and gather your paints/pastels or other art materials.
• Write your affirmation from the above meditation on the paper.
• Next, reconnect with the visualisation of your future life having achieved your goals.
• Feel the energy that you have created and interpret this on to the paper in whatever form is right for you.
• When you have finished, put the Mandala in a place where you can see it on a daily basis.
• Now, let go of the energy, release it to the universe and let the Blue Moon magic unfold.
Remember to always close down your energy centres, cleanse your auric field and step in to a bubble of protection.
This month, I have included an Auragraph for Belle Salisbury.
