I found myself smiling from the inside out as I read each fur-story of rescue and the love that ensued.
Review by Belle Salisbury
It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are. ~ Author Unknown
When our magazine featured Val Silver on the cover of our November issue, I had the wonderful pleasure of interviewing her for our feature article. Our interview felt like picking up our friendship right where we left off years ago. Some friendships just work that way; you can have snippets of time pass between meetings, and yet, connecting once again, it was as if time stood still and there was no lapse in our friendship at all.
During our interview, I was excited to learn about Val’s newest adventure; writing a book which was released in November. Her book, titled Rescue Me, Tales of Rescuing the Dogs Who Became Our Teachers, Healers, and Always Faithful Friends, is a compilation of shared stories from families who have opened their hearts to adopt dogs from shelters and rescue organizations. These stories reminded me of the friendship Val and I share. Each family connected with their new pet as if they had known one another forever, often allowing their new friendship to heal, mend or otherwise bring joy into both their lives.
You can take a look inside and purchase the book, Rescue Me at Amazon here: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GLF5HQK/. The book is currently available for Kindle, but will be available in paperback by mid-December. This would make an excellent Christmas gift idea for dog lovers and those who enjoy reading inspiring stories.
This book is a must read for all pet lovers. It is designed to raise awareness about homeless dogs in need, and as a fundraiser to help care for these loving pets.
Val stated, “We’re going to be hosting about eight organizations who focus on animal rescue. There will be a web page that goes along with the book where people can listen to some of the audio interviews. I will have a web page listing the organizations that we’re working with and there will be a featured organization, so if people want to check it out and see who is featured and what their needs are, they can make a donation. If they have a heart for rescue, any rescue center will be happy to have whatever donations people want to give. The need far exceeds the supply of resources. It’s a very, very big problem and I know some of these people are working their hearts out; even dipping into their own pockets to save these animals.”
The featured rescue for November/December 2013 is Brandy Keg Kennels of Frankfort, NY. Theresa and Shane of Brandy Keg Kennels are devoted rescuers who have fallen on hard times and are trying their hardest to make ends meet and keep their rescue operating. Storm damage and health challenges put a strain on their facility and finances and they are trying to recover. Donations are requested to help pay for vetting and operating expenses to provide for the 22 dogs in their care, as well as to make much needed repairs and improvements to the facility. The goal for their fund raiser is $5,000 and have until January 9th to reach their goal. Please show these folks you care. Your donation of any amount is much appreciated and goes directly to them and makes a positive difference. Donate here.
