Spiritual Feng Shui – Back To School
Summer is gone; it’s now early fall in the Northern Hemisphere and its back-to-school time. Our daughter has already begun her sophomore year in college. Chi (our life force energy) changes constantly, keeping everything fresh and alive and it’s not just for seasonal changes. Chi varies daily with our activities, emotions, travel and within our homes and workplaces. When practicing Spiritual Feng Shui, new Chi crafts original and innovative perspectives.
The hot Yang summer Chi has now changed to a more Yin or cooler and quieter energy. The fall season brings us into the Metal element. This grants us more clarity, organization, concentration and it enhances our analytical ability – just in time for the new school year! The Metal element is also related to your nose, sense of smell and your lungs. Take a walk and breathe in that crisp fall air!
Parents, if you have a designated place for your student to study (it can be a desk in their bedroom) you might want to enhance this element but don’t overdo it! Set an intention for your student’s success in school and other activities using some of these tips:
- De-clutter the study area, your closets and your home
- Open the windows and let in sun and fresh air
- Keep the desk area neat and in the command position (with your students back to a wall and able to see the doorway)
- Add a lamp for bright ideas
- If the study area is in the bedroom, use colors of bright blue, green or yellow for ‘bright’ kids. If your student feels stressed, use soft blue or green. Do not use red for a bedroom as it’s too stimulating
- Add a bowl of natural crystals or gemstones
- Display art or sculptures made from metal or stone
- Use colors of white, silver and pastels
- Display a clock or picture frame in a circle or oval shape
- Display a globe, owl, a poster, a favorite quote or anything that represents knowledge
Teachers, you can make your classroom stress-free for both you and your students. Use these Feng Shui tips to create a harmonious and friendly environment:
- Place your desk in the command position with a view of the door
- Keep the classroom organized and decluttered
- Open the shades and windows for natural light and fresh air
- Arrange desks so the energy has space to flow through the room
- Diffuse orange or peppermint essential oils for concentration
- Diffuse lavender essential oil if the students are boisterous
- Use natural or full spectrum lighting instead of fluorescent, if possible
- The soothing sound of a water fountain on your desk will calm you and your students
- If you’re a Reiki healer, send Reiki energy into your classroom
- Call upon Archangel Michael for strength, calmness and security
In Spiritual Feng Shui, fall is also known as ‘the season of Heaven.’ Reflect on new creation, strength and synchronicity. Remember to surround yourself with the pure protective white light of the Divine. Heaven is also associated with the Helpful People and Travel area of the Bagua energy map. The philosophy is that you need to travel to meet new people who can help you. In turn, you can assist them. Of course, since we know there are no coincidences in life, Divine help is always at work for your best and highest good! This area of the Bagua is located at the right front of your home. To make it a little more ‘heavenly’ here are some tips:
- Clear any clutter to make room for new opportunities to flow
- Add items in the Metal element as mentioned above
- If you’d like help from a specific person; place their business card, flyer or article here. These benefactors can be your boss, mentor, client, real estate agent, teacher, etc.
- Display pictures or postcards from a place you’ve stayed and want to revisit or a place that you’d love to visit
- Place an angel or other religious statue here to call in Divine assistance, protection and guidance
Call on Archangel Michael for protection, courage, leadership and focus. Call on Archangel Uriel for peace, good ideas and problem solving. Call on Archangel Jophiel for patience, help with organization and creative ideas. Teachers, call on Archangel Zadkiel for special ways to reach your students, remembering their names and course information.
Fall is also a time to reconnect with Mother Earth. Spiritual Feng Shui is all about enjoying the beauty of the season and the nourishment that it provides. Giving thanks, either through prayer or ritual, is an excellent way to raise the Chi of the Earth and your own, too! Plant gorgeous fall flowers, take a walk in the woods and breathe deeply with gratitude for all of Mother Earth’s blessings.
