If you thought 2014, the Year of the Horse, was a turbulent year, you were right! Horse energy is Yang, fast and powerful. Let’s take a sigh of relief and move into the Year of the Sheep. Per the lunar calendar, Chinese New Year is February 19, 2015 – February 7, 2016. Some refer to it as the Goat or Ram Year. In Chinese astrology it is considered a Yin Green Wood Sheep Year. The Sheep is attuned to the Moon (feminine) and holds the power of the Sun (masculine) for balance and harmony.
Year of the Sheep
So what can we expect this year? The Sheep is a symbol of peace, harmony and tranquility. It also represents the arts, teamwork, beauty, romance and abundance. We will see a return to feminine energy, greater use of intuition, feelings of nurturing and people working together to find local and global solutions. This does not mean that talk of violence, anger and war will not happen. Hopefully the Year of the Sheep will bring a calming influence to all current issues.
This is a perfect time to heal family disputes with a cool head and common sense. This is a Yin Wood year which represents re-birth, growth and balance. The Wood element is used in the Family area (middle left side of the home). Display happy family pictures in wooden frames and place healthy plants here. The colors green, brown and white will be popular this year.
Sheep like to play and have fun so nurture your inner child! Do things that make you feel happy. Sheep years are good for community events, music, dance, gardening, camping, traveling, simple comforts, increased spirituality, women entrepreneurs, promotions, abundance (2015 is an 8 year), romance and passion. Note that the Sheep is an emotional animal so there may be some upset, moodiness or depression. All things considered it sounds like a great year to me!
Spring Festival
Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, has been celebrated for 4,000 years. It’s considered the most important holiday in China. Prior to the holiday people will be cleaning, repairing and replacing items, eliminating clutter, purchasing food, polishing mirrors, setting new intentions for the altar, paying all debts, reconciling disputes with others and displaying a new doormat for new energy. Traditionally, all generations of a family celebrate together with good food (fish and dumplings to bring wealth), ancestor worship, prayer, lion dancing, and fireworks. All homes are decorated with red lanterns, couplets and paintings of sheep for good luck. Red envelopes containing money are given to children and retired seniors for good fortune. There is no talk of illness, loans, bad finances, unlucky or negative words or crying. All of these are said to bring bad luck and loss of finances. Cleaning and de-cluttering before the holiday is good Feng Shui for us too.
A new trend for single Chinese women is to rent a boyfriend for the holiday! They are unhappy with the constant parental questioning about their boyfriend and marriage status. While it might seem odd to us, it is very important for a woman to be married in China. There are legitimate websites for this purpose. It’s said to be a win-win situation because it eliminates the questioning and it’s a way to earn money for the ‘boyfriend.’
Valentine’s Day
Hopefully single Western women don’t need to rent a boyfriend! If you are single and looking for love or want to add more spark to your relationship, Feng Shui can definitely help. In coaching sessions I advise to always start with you! Self-love and self-care are extremely important. If you want to attract a happy and loving partner, make sure your energy supports the same. Open your heart to love and your energetic vibration will soar. The Relationship area is the far right corner of your home and bedroom as you look in the doorway. Set your intentions and use these tips to boost the energy of love!
- Donate excess clothes from closets and drawers to make room for a partner
- Remove laptop, TV, desk and exercise equipment and keep your mind on love
- Remove pictures of your children, friends and family. Only display your wedding photo and others of the two of you because it’s your space
- If you have one end table, add one to the other side of the bed for balance
- If single, look at your décor. If it’s too feminine change it to be more pleasing
- Add a vase of pink or red peonies. These are the flowers of love in China and can be found at Asian markets. Place them at the right side of the room on a table/dresser and add a small bowl of pink heart-shaped crystals
- If you can’t locate real flowers, hang two pictures of them
- Add two candles, two statues, wine glasses, etc, to represent the ‘two’ of you
- Red silky bed linens will add spice to your romance
- A wooden or upholstered headboard will add stability to your relationship
- Diffuse essential oils to stimulate the sex drive, energy levels and a healthy production of hormones. Try Rose, Sandalwood, Jasmine or Ylang Ylang
- Call on the collective group of Romance Angels to assist in finding a partner
- Call on Archangel Raphael to heal a broken heart, release past hurts and open your heart to new love
- Call on Archangel Chamuel to provide courage and confidence
- Call on Archangel Haniel to bring love, happiness and harmony to a partnership
- Call on Archangel Michael to provide guidance, protection and safety in a healthy relationship
