Feng Shui does have rules for preparing your home for the New Year. I think you know what’s first on the list! Yes, it’s clutter-clearing!
Happy New Year – 2016! I hope everyone enjoyed a beautiful holiday season. Our daughter was home from college and we had a wonderful time. Did you make your resolutions yet? I personally did not. I prefer to count my blessings and look for ways to bring all that I’ve learned in 2015 to serve people this year. I choose intentions over resolutions which can easily be broken. Intentions have power!
Feng Shui does have rules for preparing your home for the New Year. I think you know what’s first on the list! Yes, it’s clutter-clearing! Think ‘out with the old and in with the new.’ When we have old papers and magazines piled up, cabinets and closets overflowing with clothes we no longer wear, stuff and more stuff, it causes stagnation. Clutter is directly related to weight issues. Weight loss is probably the #1 resolution everyone makes! Take a look at the attached Bagua energy map and note where the clutter is in your home. That’s the life area that is being negatively impacted. Feeling sluggish and stuck keeps us living in the past. Clutter does not allow for new growth or opportunities to present themselves.
Here are some tips to get you started for the New Year. You don’t need to do all of them. Start slowly and see what works for you. Always state an intention for what you want to manifest when making any Feng Shui enhancements!
- Carry a trash bag and go from room to room putting items no longer used or wanted in it
- If items are in good condition, donate, consign or recycle
- Clean, sweep, mop and polish until everything shines
- Burn sage or ring Tingsha bells in every corner of every room of your home. Open the windows if you smudge to let the scent and old stagnant/negative energy out from 2015. Set an intention for improving health, happiness, finding that new job or whatever you want to manifest
- Remove old food from the pantry and fridge and re-stock with fresh items. This represents abundance
- Place a bowl with 8 oranges (the number of abundance) in the kitchen
- Buy a new plant and place it in the Family area (middle left side of the home). This represents the strength, growth and good health of your family. Add family pictures in wooden frames
- Buy a new red wallet and place money in it with the intention that it will multiply. Red adds power to any Feng Shui changes
- Hang a bird feeder or fill an existing one with fresh seeds. In Feng Shui birds bring good news
- Write a list of things that make you happy and healthy and do one each day. A gratitude list is a great idea too
- Put YOU on your calendar. Make time for meditation, long walks, yoga and self-care. YOU are important so keep the appointment
- Clean or replace your water fountain so clear water will flow health and abundance to you
- Want to find love? Start with loving yourself first! Then make room in the bedroom closet and place a nightstand on each side of the bed. Add pink or red sheets and a painting of peonies. Include items in two’s (candles, pictures, heart-shaped crystals, mandarin ducks). This can also be done in the Relationship area (back right corner of your home)
- Want to find a new job? Make sure the Career area (normally at the front door) is clean & clutter-free. Hang metal wind chimes outside the front door. Add décor items in black, navy or wavy shapes. Display a picture of the person you want to work with, a job ad or business card in this area
- Want to increase your Fame and Reputation? Hang diplomas, awards, and a symbol of a future goal, items in red, orange or triangle shapes here. This area is the middle back of your home
- Need good health? Add yellow, brown or tan colored décor items, square or rectangular shapes in the Health area (the center of your home). Also you can hang a picture of the sun or one that represents good health to you. Wear green clothing for healing
- Want to boost your finances? Add a water fountain, aquarium, picture of flowing water, jade plant or items in green, purple or gold to the Wealth area (back left corner of your home)
- Want to improve your creativity and help your children at the same time? Store games, hobby items, add white or pastel décor items or round and dome shaped metal items to the Creativity/Children area (middle right side of your home)
- Want to increase your spirituality or knowledge? Take a new class and keep your books in the Wisdom area (left front side of your home). Add a globe, posters, create an area for meditation or yoga, a chair and lamp with a bright light for studying and items in a blue-green color or items from Mother Earth.
We are still in the Year of the Sheep. With the world-wide tragedies and other losses this year it did not feel very sheepish. Chinese New Year does not begin until February 8, 2016. Next month I will have more specific info on the Year of the Fire Monkey!
