Fall Feng Shui Tips: Getting Ready For The Holidays
It’s pretty chilly this November in the East Coast of the U.S. and there’s no doubt that fall is here. The trees are showing their vibrant rich colors and they are gorgeous. This month in the U.S we have Election Day, Veterans’ Day, Thanksgiving and my birthday! During fall my family is very involved with high school football and marching band competitions. If you took my Feng Shui advice last month, your home is now organized and clutter-free. What? It’s not organized and clutter free yet? Please follow these Feng Shui tips to accomplish this task now because the major holidays will be celebrated next month! Do you want coal in your stocking? I don’t!
A Happy Thankful Home
Try to think of clearing clutter as honoring the change of seasons. It’s out with the old and in the new! Feng Shui principles say that when you remove items that you no longer want or need it allows new energy to flow to that area of your home. Good energy nourishes you and your family. Get the kids involved too. They can pack up out-grown clothes and toys while you’re clearing out your own things. Once that’s done, pack up the car and donate or call an organization to come and pick up what you no longer need.
Try to consider cleaning as a sacred ritual. Ask the ‘cleaning angels’ to remove stagnant or negative energy and transmute it into light and love. Yes, there are angels for every need! Feng Shui says you can bring in positive energy by moving 27 items in your home. Try it and let me know how the energy changed for you!
• Add the Earth element by using warm colors in throw pillows, a cozy blanket for the sofa and fluffy towels for the bathroom
• Enhance the stable Metal element of late fall by adding a vase, picture frame, or clock to a table or desk
• Place more blankets on the beds for added warmth
• Buy energy efficient light bulbs to lighten up dark rooms
• Clean off any cluttered kitchen counter tops, drawers and pantry
• Display pumpkins, gourds or seasonal flowers
• Eat more autumn vegetables, hearty stews and soups for warmth and balanced energy
• Place books or magazines in a basket by a comfy chair to read or donate to a library or hospital
• Clean out the chimney and fireplace for winter use
• Fall sports are almost over so organize and pack equipment away
• Coats and jackets should be easy to reach for the kids
Happy Thanksgiving!
In the U.S. Thanksgiving is a time to celebrate our blessings with family and this holiday has a major emphasis on food! Imagine walking into a warm and cozy home with the scents of the season wafting towards you! Turkey, Stuffing, Pumpkin Pie – oh my! Whether or not you’re hosting Thanksgiving or another holiday, you might want to know these Feng Shui dining room tips. In most homes, the dining room is usually ignored except for a few times a year when entertaining. I’ve seen dining rooms made into home offices and playrooms but remember it is the architectural dining room! In Feng Shui this room is a place of wealth so keep it clean and clutter-free no matter how it’s currently used.
If you see the dining room (or kitchen) when you enter your home, it can negatively affect your eating habits. If this is your home, hang a round faceted crystal by 9” of red cord (or multiples of 9”) with intention over the dining room table to disperse the energy and let it flow smoothly into the other rooms. A dining room is considered nourishing and tranquil Yin energy so it’s best located at the back of the home. If the location is in the front of your home, just use the crystal tip with intention!
For a happy Thanksgiving try these ideas:
• A solid round or oval wooden table shape is best. If the table is square or rectangle hopefully it has rounded edges so there is no cutting Chi energy
• If your table has pointed edges, add a red, orange or yellow cloth to soften the energy. These colors will increase everyone’s appetite
• Blue and green tablecloths will suppress the appetite
• Gold or white tablecloths can be used if your dinner is formal
• A bold pattern tablecloth is good for less formal dining and it adds fun
• Arrange your living room furniture so people can face each other to chat
• Place yellow potted mum plants outside and inside your home to welcome guests and brighten the day. They also express harmony
• The host should sit in the Command Position with the widest view of the door
• If someone in the family tends to be argumentative, do not have them sit with their back to a doorway. Keep them away from pointed furniture too
• Display and use your good china, crystal & silverware since this is a holiday of abundance
• Don’t use paper plates or tablecloths! This is a holiday to celebrate the rich bounty of all things
• Round dishes have the best flow of harmony but you can use square if you have them. The energy will just flow more slowly and you may prefer this
• Burn non-toxic candles for good health and great ambiance
• Good lighting is auspicious in the dining room so clean your chandelier or hang up a new one for the holidays. You can dim it as needed and use candles
• Hang a mirror on the wall so it reflects the bounty on the table for wealth
• Remove clocks from the dining room as no one needs to see life ticking away when they’re having fun and relaxing
• Remove pictures of deceased family members as it is too much Yin energy
• If you want to scent the air with cinnamon, simmer some on the stove or diffuse a pure essential oil
• Express gratitude to those who farmed and harvested your food
• Say a blessing over your food thanking God/Source for the abundance in your life or create your own Thanksgiving ritual
• Remember those less fortunate by donating to a food pantry
