I was so busy with my new website launch that I was unable to write last month’s column. I do apologize! I love November! One of the biggest holidays this month in the U.S. is Thanksgiving. My birthday is on the same day! We are no longer marching band parents since our daughter is a college freshman. She loves it and we are all feeling truly blessed!
We are now firmly settled in the Feng Shui Yin season of autumn. The gorgeous orange and gold leaves are steadily dropping from the trees. It’s time for our environment and for each of us to slow down and turn inward. Autumn is an opportunity to begin anew and revise plans and goals.
The shifting energy in autumn is a great reminder to let go of the past. Like falling leaves, release what no longer serves your highest good. It’s time to de-clutter our homes and our lives. Gratefully donate or gift to less fortunate folks. A food pantry will gratefully accept extra canned goods. When we clear out the old and welcome the autumn energy we are actually honoring seasonal energy. As we enter the Yin time of year, we can feel lethargic and even depressed with less sunlight. Here are some ways to brighten up autumn Feng Shui Yang Chi:
- Rake up fallen leaves and remove them because it is stagnant Chi
- Place pots of yellow mums at your front door to enhance Chi
- Change linens, drapes, pillows, etc from light and summery fabrics and colors to ones rich in autumnal colors
- Donate any unwanted items whose negative energy may be holding you back in life
- Give your home a good cleaning. Summer’s heat and busy family fun may not have provided time for this
- Diffuse uplifting essential oils such as clary sage, bergamot or peppermint
- Use a timer on lights to brighten up your home on darker nights
- Clean the chimney and light the fireplace. The hearth is connected to heart energy. You can also light candles and light up your soul
- Enhance the stable Metal element of autumn/winter by adding a metal vase, picture frame, or clock to a table or desk. Metal is related to creativity, communication and inspiration
- Hang metal wind chimes near the front door to uplift Chi
- Display pumpkins, gourds or seasonal flowers (don’t clutter)
- The kitchen is a wealth area. Keep countertops clean and cabinets neat and organized
- Set up a reading area with a comfy chair and throw
- Eat more autumn vegetables, hearty stews and soups for warmth and balanced energy
Happy Thanksgiving! This is one of my favorite holidays in the U.S. We spend time with family and friends, count our blessings and eat a little too much food! Feel free to use these ideas for any family gathering. To make this holiday active and enjoyable, not hectic and stressful, here are some things you can do:
- Remove excess furniture to make room for company
- Eat in the dining room using all your good china and silverware
- A round or oval dining table is best. Add a cloth to absorb any negative energy and if your table is square or rectangle. Try not to seat anyone at the pointed ends that have sharp energy
- Don’t put a demanding person or loud talker at the head of the table or they will dominate the conversation. The host/hostess should sit at the head
- Use all the autumn colors in your décor especially if the room or drapes are dark (Yin). Balance with Yang colors like orange or gold. Use good lighting, candles and use some shiny serving dishes
- The dining room is associated with abundance. With intention, hang a mirror to reflect the bounty of food on your table and you will increase your wealth
- Display a cornucopia with fruits, nuts, seasonal gourds to boost abundance
- Balance your foods with Yin/Yang energy. Cooked, spicy food and chocolate are Yang energy. Mashed potatoes and raw foods are Yin energy so serve them in brightly colored dishes
- Say grace or give thanks for the blessings of family, friends and good food
Heavenly Fall! In Feng Shui, autumn is considered to be the season of Heaven. The area of the Bagua that represents this is Helpful People and Travel. It’s located at the right front area of our home. Think of this space as being strengthened by the love and light of Heaven. The element is strong Metal. The ‘Helpful People’ can be angels, saints or people that we consider to be mentors/role models. This space also represents travel. Here are some ways to enhance the Chi of this area:
- Use angel statues or artwork to remind us to be ‘Divine’
- Create an altar or shrine of Heavenly beings, Ascended Masters or deceased loved ones to express gratitude for their unseen support and love. This should be kept separate from your own personal altar
- Express gratitude for food. Say a blessing for the farmers and if you eat meat, for the animals who nourish you and your family
- Smudge and bless your home by standing in the center with your arms over your head in a ‘Y’ formation. Ask your Higher Power to fill you with healing energy. Visualize this energy overflowing your arms and flowing into your home. When you intuitively sense you’ve received enough abundant blessings, give thanks to your Higher Power and angels. They always provide love, comfort, healing and protection
- If you practice Reiki, you can send this healing energy into your home
- Remember to have fun and laugh. The angels love it when we are joyful
- Make travel plans. Place a picture or postcard of a place you wish to visit
- If you haven’t given your home a name, do it now. The energy of the name should reflect your spiritual and sacred space
- Archangel Adnachiel is the Angel of November. He rules over Sagittarius bringing honesty, personal and spiritual growth and independence
