Top 8 Feng Shui Questions
Feng Shui enhancements or ‘cures’ can raise the Chi energy and bring harmony and balance to your home and office. If we have clutter or keep items in the same space for years it can cause us to feel stagnant and stuck in the life area that’s cluttered. Once items are moved (I prefer donating to a charity), this allows the energy to flow more freely into the space. When energy flows, it brings more opportunities, good luck and prosperity to your life.
Following Feng Shui principles especially with a home consultation can increase finances; create more loving relationships with a partner, family and others. It can also let your creativity soar, strengthen your well-being, improve your health and get you motivated to live your best life! You must first set an intention of what you desire as the outcome of this change. Remember, if you don’t set an intention, you’re just doing some interior decorating and that does not raise your Chi level to support your life!
During consultations I meet folks who have read a book or implemented someone’s ideas to move things around and then wondered why nothing happened with this Feng Shui stuff! Intention is considered the spiritual side of Feng Shui and it’s the real power behind this art and science. According to Grandmaster Lin Yun, it’s the starting point of Feng Shui. It’s the invisible life force energy as is predecessor energy, the energy of the land and people who have lived in your home before you. Intention is the strong desire, feeling and visualization that also adds power to your enhancements!
With intention, we must add action. For example, set an intention for the reason why you want to move a piece of furniture (it might be blocking the entrance to a room) and then move it. Now the space is physically and energetically open and the energy is flowing again. Just be very clear about what you want to achieve, see it, feel it, then make the change. Let’s get to the questions!
1. Front Door
I don’t use my formal front door, I use the breezeway door. When you enter, there are two more doors. I use the one that opens into the kitchen. Is this correct?
A. I encourage everyone to enter their home by using the architectural front door. This is considered ‘the Mouth of Chi.’ Your front door is where all the good luck, energy and prosperity enters your home. By not using it, you may not be receiving all the goodness life has to offer you and your family. Too many doors can also confuse the Chi! Using a door that opens directly into the kitchen can subconsciously cause you to overeat. Feng Shui says that the kitchen is a negative room to enter because it can lead to health issues including digestion problems, binge eating and also negatively affects your finances! A Feng Shui change with intention would be to hang a wind chime or crystal over the spot where the cook stands at the stove to circulate the negative energy and make it less harsh.
2. Missing Sectors
My home is an ‘L’ shape because an addition was added on after the house was built. I use the back area as a studio, is this good Feng Shui?
A. In my experience an ‘L’ shaped home can be problematic. In Feng Shui it means that a part of the home and its energy are missing. This can lead to a loss of abundance, relationships, creativity, ability to communicate and more. When you place the Bagua energy map over your home you will see what areas are affected. I can assure you that there will be issues in your life related to these missing areas! For an external cure to energetically fill the space, plant a row of bushes, a tree, place a spotlight, or a boulder to anchor that missing corner. Inside the home, you can place a large mirror on both sides of the wall that face the missing area with the intention to push these walls out to make the home rectangle. There are other cures but this one is the easiest one. If you don’t like the look of the mirrors or don’t have enough wall space, place a mirror under a painting and set the same intention. I’ve had success with even turning the mirror backwards so it faces out to the space and draws the energy back inside.
3. Bed Placement
My bed is in front of a window directly facing the doorway. I don’t sleep well so should I move the bed?
A. Feng Shui says that every bed should be located in the Command Position as this impacts your finances and life success. This position provides security and comfort when sleeping. It gives the bed the widest view of the doorway and the headboard (solid wood is best) should be on a solid wall. Think protection, security and empowerment! A bed that is directly in line with the doorway is considered to be in the ‘coffin or death position’ and you don’t want to sleep in a position like this! Place it on a solid wall which offers you support in life (your mountain) and not facing the door. If you must put the bed in front of a window, energetically create the solid wall by hanging drapes, closed blinds, or placing a large plant behind the bed.
4. Ceiling Fans
I have a fan in the middle of my bedroom at the foot of my bed. What should I hang to not cut off my Chi energy?
A. A ceiling fan’s blades are considered cutting Chi. When sleeping, the blades energetically cut you in pieces! I had a client with foot issues and when we performed a Feng Shui ‘cure’ to her fan, the foot issues went away. I would suggest you either turn the fan off, move the bed or the fan. I do know most people like to sleep with a fan at night so don’t fear! The next best thing is to hang a round faceted crystal from the fan attached to a red cord in multiples of 9”. This will diffuse the cutting energy of the blades.
5. Windows
My home is old and the windows are cloudy. Is this bad Feng Shui?
A. Feng Shui considers windows to be the eyes of your home. How you view your world from inside your home influences your relationship with the outside world and even your future. Windows that are not clear or do not open widely can affect our vision physically and can cause us to make poor decisions because we lack clarity. Blocked windows can cause depression and stagnation in life. If you cannot clean them yourself, call in a professional. Once cleaned, hang a round faceted crystal attached to red cord using multiples of 9” inside the window. When the light comes in it will create rainbows and circulate the energy.
6. 9s and Red
Why do I need to use multiples of 9 inches and a red cord for cures?
A. Feng Shui teaches that 9 is the highest number and symbolizes completion and power. If cures need a longer red cord, then use multiples of 9 inches. Red is a high vibrational color. The combination of the two brings very high energy and power to cures.
7. Abundance
Is there an area in my home to bring me more money?
A. Yes, the far left hand corner of your home is the wealth area. I call it abundance because to me it means so much more than money. Abundance can mean happy, healthy family members, good friends, or good luck and so on. The first thing to do is remove clutter, clean the area, set an intention for what you want to accomplish and act on it. The colors are purple, red and green. Add items that represent abundance to you in these colors. Green healthy plants, Chinese coins tied with red string, golden Buddha statues, a water fountain, a fish tank, etc. Make sure all drains are closed and toilet lids down throughout the home. Keep a clear path from the front door to all areas of your home to receive good energy. Remember a clean and clutter free home will also support your abundance!
8. Deities
Is there a certain deity in Feng Shui that will help my home?”
A. A statue of the Chinese Buddha or ‘laughing Buddha’ is jolly and brings joy, wealth and good luck. Quan Yin is the Buddhist Mother Goddess of Mercy and Compassion. Call upon her for parenting help, protection for children or anyone ill in the family. Either of these statues can be placed by your front door to welcome good Chi into your home. Never place them on the floor as that is not respectful! Archangel Jophiel is known as the ‘Feng Shui Angel.’ You can call upon her to fill your home with love, beauty, and gratitude. Ask her to help you de-clutter, beautify your thoughts and raise the energy of your environment.
