Summer is over! This past school year has been a whirl-wind for our family; our daughter’s busy senior year, prom, graduation party, vacation and now getting ready for college life. We will send her with love, dorm furniture, good energy, snacks, and money!
For those of you with younger kids or teens in school, Feng Shui principles can put them on the fast track to success. Let’s raise their Chi energy for good health, new routines and teachers, and calm their fears. It really is a balancing act with homework, activities, sports, band, and video games. Trying to equalize social and intellectual skills takes a bit of work but ultimately both students and parents will be happier. Allow your kids to become more independent too. Set an intention for the energy and success you want to create and manifest!
- Remove clutter from the bedroom for a good night’s sleep
- Let your kids voice their opinion about the décor
- Keep school papers, books & reports organized
- Remove cell phone, computer and TV to stop EMF rays. If you get flack for this, put them in a cabinet or cover them over at night
- Place the head of your child’s bed on a solid wall with a view of the door (but not in a direct line). This allows a feeling of security and protection
- Place angel statues or any religious item you prefer in the Helpful People area at the right front of the room
- If you must store items, place them in closets or use baskets. Try not to put items under the bed as the air should circulate
- The Knowledge/Wisdom area is the left front of the room. Place a world globe, books, inspirational items, posters, a statue of an owl or anything that raises the energy of knowledge to them
- Position the desk and chair in the command position (their back to the wall) for less distraction and security. Add a round desk light, no pointed edges facing them
- If your child is shy or fearful, display a happy photo with mom & dad or siblings and grandparents
- If your student will study in the bedroom, paint it a warm color. You can change color and décor as a child grows
- Bright blue, green and yellow can support ‘bright’ kids. If your child feels stressed, use soft blue or green. Eliminate red because it’s very stimulating and not conducive to a good night’s sleep
- Display happy family pictures in the Family area in the left middle side of the room.
- Hang report cards, academic or activity awards in a red frame in the Fame/Reputation area at the middle of the back wall
- Hang your child’s artwork and display crafts in the Creativity area, the middle of the right wall
- Leave an open area for play and fun
- Make sure they have some new clothes and school supplies
If you have a teenager, the above rules apply. Remember to also empower them to make choices. Teens need more focus, grounding and freedom. Here are some Feng Shui bedroom tips for teens. They can also be used in a dorm room too.
- Add a rug in earth tones for keeping them grounded
- If they want a dark color on the walls, suggest dark green or earth tones. Dark red is too stimulating for a good night’s sleep
- Make sure they sleep in the command position with a good view of the doorway but not in a direct line of the door
- Artwork or posters should be uplifting & inspiring not dark and negative
- Have a space where they can let their own creativity shine
- Suggest that they create a vision board of what they’d like to manifest for the school year and beyond
- A comfy upholstered chair for guests is a great idea
- Include your teen’s opinion when making design and décor changes
- Try not to have them share a room with a younger sibling. They need their own space
- If they have a separate study area, make it light and bright. Keep the bedroom more restful
If you’re a teacher, you might not have much say about the set up of your classroom. If you do, there are ways to use Feng Shui principles to make you and your classroom as stress-free as possible. You are responsible for your kids, so make sure they’re happy, stress-free and encourage them to learn. Here are some tips to create a nurturing environment for all of you:
- De-clutter the classroom leaving space for the Chi energy to flow
- Keep papers organized and filed away or in closets
- Place your desk in the command position having the widest view of the door. This will also give you some needed privacy. Keep it neat
- Try to sit with your back against a solid wall for energetic support
- If you must sit in front of a window, use blinds or curtains. If they can’t be used then hang a round faceted crystal from the window to deflect the energy back into the room
- Open the windows as much as you can to let in the sun and fresh air
- Try to arrange desks so that they all face the same direction and there is space between them
- Keep art & other supplies in a central location
- Use the Bagua map to locate the areas related to colors and elements. Hang items in those 9 colors or items made from the elements of earth, air, fire, metal and water to balance the room. A bamboo plant is hardy and brings in nature. Crystals & gemstones work well, and a water fountain
- Diffuse pure lavender oil to keep everyone calm. If they get sleepy, diffuse pure peppermint oil
- If possible, use full spectrum lighting, not fluorescent. Full spectrum lighting encourages focus, concentration, alertness and decreases stress
Teachers ask your students how they feel in your classroom before and after any changes you make. They are more intuitive than you might think! Feng Shui energy is felt on a subconscious level. They may feel comfortable but not know exactly why. Tell them about Feng Shui and the study of energy. It will open up a great discussion!
I know you can’t discuss angels in the classroom unless you teach in a Catholic or other religious school. You can keep a small angel statue on your desk and there are angels to call upon to assist you in during the school year.
- Archangel Michael for protection, courage, strength, leadership and focus
- Archangel Uriel will bring peace to an unruly classroom, help with ideas, tests, studying and problem solving
- Archangel Jophiel assists with appreciation for art, nature, music and creative pursuits. Also patience, wisdom & organization
- Archangel Zadkiel is the wise angel of teachers. He can guide you to the appropriate way to reach your students, help you remember names and course information. He will also assist you if you are continuing your own studies
I wish all of the students and teachers good luck! I hope my own daughter is successful in navigating her new surroundings and the rigors of academics while still having fun in college. I am asking the angels to protect her and guide her.
