Ray Goosby is one of my longtime friends within the paranormal field.
By Jim Malliard, The Malliard Report
So, let’s catch up on what Ray Goosby is doing today with his group, Dark Alley Paranormal, Northeast Ohio Chapter.
Jim: So What’s New with Dark Alley?
Ray: Every day is a new day for us at Dark Alley! We have found a nice niche in helping out our local historical societies with restoration fundraisers and paranormal investigations and events. We also put in our own grunt work by actually physically helping with some of the restoration projects! Very rewarding for us and a gold star for the para-community. Also Aaron Sulser, Dark Alley founder moved to California last summer and we have a Dark Alley – West Coast Chapter. So, we now have 4 chapters and are spreading across the nation!
Jim: Tell me about Anna Dean Farm?
Ray: Anna Dean Farm was the brainchild of entrepreneur and founder of the city of Barberton, OH – Ohio Cleveland (O.C.) Barber. He was pulled from schooling at the age of 16 and made the company salesman of his father’s Barber Match Company. This company eventually was merged with O.C. at the helm into what is still known today as the Diamond Match Company. Barber also had founding interest and stakes in Akron based B.F Goodrich and Barberton based Babcock-Wilcox boiler companies. Anna Dean Farm however was his dream project.
Construction started on this state of the art “scientific farm” in 1907 and lasted until 1903. The farm was known for its exotic livestock and forward thinking agriculture methods which are still used to this day. The farm had consisted of 32 buildings, all of which were constructed in the “beaux-art” style. The animals were kept clean and warm, as well as the barns themselves. True care for all. After his death in 1920, Anna Dean Farm was sold off as the family could not afford to keep it in operation. Most of the buildings were demolished or left abandoned and destroyed by nature or fire. The Barberton Historical Society saved and have reclaimed 6 buildings. Two were leased and completely restored into a state of the art child day care, and a beautiful office building. Four buildings remain unused and that is where we stage our paranormal investigations. There are deaths linked to each building and our team has traced them back to the facts and know that the deaths were true and not merely legend. The beauty of it is, spirits remain, not because of tragedy, but because of their love of the farm and O.C. Barber himself who, although certainly enjoyed the life of a millionaire, also really cared for all, especially those he employed.
Jim: Do you have any advice you would give to a new investigator?
Ray: Ask yourself why you are doing this. And when you figure that out, stick to that reason and don’t allow people’s criticism of your reasons and your methodologies sway you away from that or discourage your research. This is the PARANORMAL after all. Be true to yourself and let that truth be what you let others perceive.
Jim: And finally, where do you see the field in 5 years?
Ray: I have to say, I see it exactly where it is today. A bunch of people interested in the field who want a show, a bunch of people in the field who waste a lot of time trying to be anti-“what they do on shows,” and guys like me and our team, doing what we love and helping preserve our history.
Jim: Please share your links so people can find your social media and websites.
