First of all, I just wanted to say thank you to Belle Salisbury for the awesome opportunity to be a columnist for Bellesprit Magazine! I have always been an avid writer and had an interest in the more subtle layers of life. It’s great to be able to combine the two and share some of the knowledge and experience I’ve gained over the years. For my very first article in Bellesprit I thought I’d give you a brief introduction to the Spirit Axis column and some background on how it developed.
Do you see images or words in your mind’s eye? To visualize such things is part of a psychic gift called Clairvoyance and can be a useful tool for gathering information and discerning future events. We all have this ability to some extent, but it appears to be stronger and happen easier for some. For me, it has always been there although it’s not something I have actively developed. I most often see words, but sometimes experience moving images that I can only describe as waking visions… important messages from Spirit that can come when least expected.
One day I was pondering my life, thinking over goals and spiritual pursuits. I wasn’t exactly meditating, but I was deep in thought, focusing on my options and what I could possibly do to make a difference in the world. As I was thinking, I began to notice a niggling at the corners of my consciousness; a gentle but growing sensation that something was there, trying to gain my attention. As I shifted focus I experienced the waking vision that I was referring to. A darting presence made itself known, iridescent colors reflecting light and dazzling my mind’s eye.
I realized that Dragonfly had appeared and was insistent on sharing a message with me. A tiny being blazing with light and flashing colors was impossible to ignore. Generally the Dragonfly represents swiftness and change, breaking down of illusions and bringing enlightenment. It seemed very appropriate for him to show up at this time when I was questioning just where things were going and what changes I needed to make.
Dragonfly did not speak to me, but still I understood the message he conveyed. You may notice that the shape of a dragonfly’s body and wings is very similar to the traditional Cross. Dragonfly explained to me that this is also the symbol of what was deemed the “Spirit Axis”, the intersection where our physical life meets the more ethereal aspects of existence. This joining of the two creates the possibility of advancing through life, providing our spirit the ability to progress forward along the Timeline of the Soul. Dragonfly wanted me to share that there was no limit to the distance the Soul can travel when upheld on wings of Light.
This is how the Spirit Axis column was born. Out of a desire to learn more about my own journey and path in life, it was shared with me as a tool for inspiration and growth. I am now sharing it with all the readers of Bellesprit Magazine in hopes that it will continue to uplift and motivate others to make the necessary changes for the better. Each month I will be writing from different perspectives and philosophies, but the ultimate goal is the same: sharing of knowledge and Light. Stay tuned for a multitude of subjects ranging from ghosts and the paranormal to alternative healing or the power of folklore and myth. My interests are wide and varied and this will be reflected in the Spirit Axis column.
Once again, I just want to thank Belle and the rest of the Bellesprit Magazine community for welcoming me with open arms. This really is a dream come true and it could not have happened at a better time. I look forward to sharing my unique perspective each month with the readers and fellow columnists alike!
In closing, I’d like to leave you with a poem, or Medicine Song, that Dragonfly also gifted me that day. Think on the words and the images they conjure. Dragonfly wants you to know about the Spirit Axis also, in hopes it will bring some comfort and inspiration to your Journey.
Light-Bringer, Change-Giver
Dragonfly so bright,
Your colors bring such delight.
Flash your wings and dart,
Reminding us to take heart.
Through all joys and strife,
We move forward in our life.
Shining true and strong,
Catching light as shadows grow long.
