Are You Really Too Sensitive? I knew it was a book I had to have! She goes in depth about the types of psychic sensitivity and how to deal with them. I think it is out of print, yet I highly recommend it for anyone who feels the least intuitive. Often times we start to develop sensitivity even before we know we are psychic. If you want to know when your psychic awareness started, look to when you became sensitive to your surroundings. I often have people ask me when I first knew I had “the gift.” First off, calling psychic or empathic abilities a gift is like calling a woman’s monthly visitor a friend! Friend? Sure that monthly guest lets us know we are still fertile, which is a great thing. It’s just the bloating, cramping and crankies that I can do without. Same goes for psychic or empathic abilities. Yes I like being a psychic. No, I really don’t want to feel your headache or know that you are lying to that person! Not sure if gift is the right word for that “special feeling” we get, but they say gifts are best given, so let me offer you the gift of some tips on dealing with psychic sensitiveness. It’s not me – it’s you! ~ Empathic Connections Empathic connection means that you can feel or sense what another is experiencing. It is usually a physical or emotional connection, but it can also be the feelings that go along with stress or mental anguish. It is not always coming from someone in close proximity, but that is the most common. The first step to dealing with empathic sensitivity is to know what is yours and what isn’t. If you are not prone to headaches yet all the sudden you get one, you might want to look around and see who nearby is holding their head or has their brow furrowed. Very often an empathic or intuitive person will literally feel what someone else is feeling. When you think it is yours, you tend to hold onto it even after that person has left your vicinity. So what to do? When you get a sensation, emotion, pain, mental stress etc. that comes on quickly, take a moment to see if there is any reason that this should be occurring. Think about things like eating habits, emotional triggers, etc. that might cause what you are experiencing. Let’s say you are in a restaurant and suddenly feeling very emotional. Did anything happen today that would lead you to be emotional? Is the conversation you are having over lunch making you emotional? If you can’t think of anything, look around and see who you are near. It might be the person sitting next to you or the waitress taking your order. Is your friend telling you about an argument they had with their spouse this morning? At restaurants, it could be that the cook that you can’t even see, yet prepared your meal is upset. It doesn’t matter who as much as determining that it isn’t yours. Once you have determined that you are not the source, there are at least two things you can do. Calhoun suggests that you repeat your name to yourself. I would say to myself “I am Cindy” Feeling your feet on the ground also ensures that you are in your body and connected to yourself, not whoever is having the problem. I will imagine a ball of very bright light in my heart center and I explode it outward, clearing my body and telling myself “I fully release whatever is not mine.” After that, I suggest that you ask the Recycling Angels to come and take away whatever is released and send it to the light for healing. Then recheck and see if it is still there. You will need to be honest here. Maybe your friend was dumping on you one too many times and that anger you were feeling was yours. Usually though, by then the sensation has been cleared out. I like to finish up with surrounding myself with golden light as a healing salve. I am so annoyed at this loud music or person or barking dog! When psychic abilities are moving to a new level, we tend to feel like a psychic sponge, sucking up every energetic yuck that flies by. Well, just like a sponge can be wrung out, so can we. Often it is excess energy, annoying because it is vibrating either higher or lower than you are. Once you are good at identifying it, you can keep it from coming into your body. But until then, we can do an exercise that helps let go of the excess energy that we have absorbed while strengthening our Outer Bodies so we are not quite so porous. For this, I recommend grounding and a Golden Light Exercise. Don’t worry; this is a no sweat type of exercise! First, take a moment to be aware that you have taken on excess energy. Eventually the Golden Light Exercise will stop the energy from coming in, but this is for once it is already there. See whatever is bugging you as energy and depersonalize it. See it as a color in your body. Imagine or know that you have a root that runs down your legs and into Mother Earth. See the energy you have taken on run down your body and into the Earth. Thank Mother Earth for dealing with this energy and affirm you will become more aware and not take others energy on so easily. Now picture golden light coming from above your head, entering in through the top of your head and filling up your entire body. The Golden light also flows down through the roots, washing out any remaining color of that excess energy you took on earlier. This golden light is healing to you and to Mother Earth. Allow that golden light to just flow from head to root for a minute or two. Now see the golden light filling up your entire body and expanding out in a 5 foot radius. It is like a circle of light above, below, side to side and behind you. Once your entire circle is as full of golden light as possible, allow it to dissipate and ask the Recycling Angles to come pick up what is released. This exercise strengthens your Outer Bodies and you will not be so prone to take in energy that is vibrating lower than you are and your body will continue to vibrate at higher and higher levels. Sometimes you can just imagine that your body looks like Scotty is beaming you up and that allows the energy to just flow through you and not stick. There are many ways to work with excess energy. The important thing to remember is that sensitive isn’t a good or a bad word. It describes the awareness of energy that cannot be seen. Although it can feel really icky until you can develop ways to work with it. I hope this helps give you some pointers to start with.
